Period Pictures

These first two images are taken from opposite banks of the Rhine. On the left, from the U.S. perspective, looking across to the steep Erpeler Ley cliff. The right, looking back from the German perspective. Quite some vantage point !

U.S. troops crossing the Ludendorff bridge. This photo was taken during the few days between it's capture and collapse into the Rhine.

This is a period map showing how, even though we refer to east and west bank, the Ludendorff bridge ran geographically north to south. The U.S. troops approached Remagen from the west.
