U.S. 2nd Armoured Div. Living History group in Bethune, France, 1999
One of the outside exhibits at the Undersea Wrecks Invasion Museum at Port-en-Bessin, Normandy. I would thoroughly recommend a visit to this museum which has a fantastic array of exhibits recovered from the sea. The piece is a stern name plate of the destroyer USS Nelson. Hit by German E-Boat S 138 during the night of June 12th. 1944. This ship lost her stern and rear 155mm gun, seven miles offshore Omaha beach. Severely damaged, she was to be towed to Portsmouth.
The classic "Longest Day" view from a bunker at the western end of Utah beach.
Omaha Beach, taken from the U.S. cemetery at Colleville-sur-mer. Those little dots on the beach are people. Makes you think !
The lunar landscape and famous coastal feature of Point-du-Hoc, where the 2nd. Ranger Battalion under command of LTC James E. Rudder scaled the 100ft cliff.
