5.Memorial
Minute George Aldrich
It
is with sadness that CLAS and the Aeromodellers it represents heard of the
death of George Aldrich in the USA.
George
will remain one of the great legends of aeromodelling and in particular Control
Line. His famous NOBLER aerobatics design broke new ground in the 1950s and
variations on its design remain the basic parameters for most stunt design even
to this day.
George
was also an “engine man” and was well known for his pioneering work with engine
performance, rebuilding and perhaps especially his expertise with piston and
cylinder assemblies.
We
were privileged to have had George as a guest at the Nationals in Wagga NSW
several years ago and it was there that many discovered the man behind the
legend. George was larger that life - a big man in stature and personality who
was generous with his time, advice and energy for all who met him.
We
are the poorer for his passing and convey to his family and friends our
sympathy and condolences.
