After logging many miles as a passenger on the back of my husband's various motorcycles through the years, and seeing more and more women take to the roads, I decided it was time to move up to the front. I started out on a 750 Honda, and after a few months, purchased my 1995 Sportster, AFTER taking The Motorcyle RiderCourse.
That's me with my pride and joy in the picture.
In November, 1997, I completed The Motorcycle Safety Foundation's instructor course, and in the Spring of 1998, I began teaching motorcycle safety as a certified instructor with the Knoxville Rider Education Program (KREP).
The Motorcycle RiderCourse was developed by The Motorcycle Safety Foundation and is divided into two levels. Level I provides the student with an understanding of the overall responsibilities of motorcycling and concentrates on the basic skills needed to operate a motorcycle. Level II builds on Level I's basics and applies those skills to street riding. Level II training develops street riding strategies and higher level riding skills.
The Motorcycle Safety Foundation also offers an Experienced RiderCourse (ERC). The ERC is designed for experienced riders who want to increase knowledge and skill on their own motorcycle. Emphasis is placed on advanced riding skills and handling emergency situations. This course is limited to those riders with two years and 5,000 miles of street riding experience, or a graduate of The Motorcycle RiderCourse "Riding and Street Skills" with three months and 1,000 miles of street riding experience.
