Twila came into the world the same way all her brothers and sisters did-immerging from her soft cocoon gradually with the help of her parents. She had never known what it was like to be alone. She had always had her siblings and her parents as well. Even in the cocoon, she could feel their presence.
Lucina watched as her children waddled about precariously. Smiling softly, she dipped her head to lick them gently, cleaning the silken threads off of their muzzles and paws.
Twila glanced up at the beautiful creatures that were so close to her. One was ebony, with rainbow tails glimmering. She was soft spoken and sweet, but yet, she could feel a certain strength to her. A warrioress' strength. She wasn't sure how she knew all this, but she felt it, and that was enough for Twila.
The other creature was an entirely different matter. Bronzed and bold, he sat still and proud, the epitome of a perfect father watching over his cubs. He seemed gentle, but he too felt hardened by life. There was so much hardship and trials surrounding her... it was almost too much for the tiny cub.
Taking a faltering step, she decided to examine her surroundings. Stumbling around, she noticed her other siblings for the second time. Six altogether. All were just as pretty as herself, and were doing the same thing she was doing. She was very curious as to what was around her.
She spotted another couple cubs aways off, sitting next to her parents. They weren't as young as herself, that much she could tell, for they stood with a confident demeanor, like they had done been doing it long before them. No silken threads showed on their coats, so Twila assumed that they were not her sibs. Curious as to who these cubs were that accompanied her parents, she plodded forward, seemingly amazed that she was actually moving her own feet. Seating herself in front of her parents, she asked quietly, voice tremulous (for she had never used it before) "Mum, Da, who are these cubs? The...they're not my re-relat-relatives are they?" Tyri and Luci shook their heads.
"Indeed not love, although you may consider them as such if you so wish to. This is Atienza and this is Miasmic," said Tyri-Anu, pointing out each in turn. Each cub nodded a greating. Twila smiled shyly, and was surprised when the one named Miasmic came closer to investigate. He looked up at his mother.
"What are you going to call her?" he asked plaintitively.
"Hmm.... do you see her markings Mic?" asked Luci. He nodded. "Well I was thinking perhaps Twila for her markings remind me of a night sky at twilight. I think it's fitting." Miasmic sniffed.
"Twila? That's a good name," he said, nodding in approval.
Twila, she thought. I have a name now. She was happy that she had a name so suiting, at least according to her parents and Miasmic, although she hadn't really noticed herself. Glancing down at her paws, she noticed her coat. It was dotted with tiny moons and stars, each seemingly chasing the other around her pelt repetitively. She smiled and tested a paw experimentally, flexing and unflexing, coiling and uncoiling her muscles.
She took a few more steps towards her mother, this time more sure in her step, and cuddled up next to her leg, her downy new fur rubbing against her mother's. Lucina smiled, and cuddled the cub closer to her protectively. Her beautiful sun and stars. She didn't know where she got the colouration from, but it was certainly lovely, and she was most proud of her first clutch. They were all so beautiful and strong. She looked at Miasmic and Atienza. She was proud of them as well, for they were getting along perfectly with the others, expecially Miasmic with Twila.
Miasmic had taken an instant liking to the more sociable Twila, and joined her at the base of her mother's leg, cuddling up beside the warm cub. Twila smiled and sidled up right next to Miasmic. The extra warmth was welcome.
