Panoramic view of Rainier in 1910 showing the Knights of Pythias Hall (in the upper right above the school). It was built in 1901.

The Knights of Pythias Hall sat north of the Methodist Church on the present northeast corner of E 1st St. and E B St. (Highway 30). The building that now occupies the site was once Hallberg's food store and now is Bell Studios (from Google Maps, looking south, August 2014).

Description
The Knights of Pythias Hall was destroyed by fire on August 13, 1916 started from a spark blown from the roof of a steam roller that was working on old Harrison (now First) street, and before it was discovered, most of the roof was ablaze. On the back of the postcard is written "Rainier Ore. Aug 13th 1916, 5 P.M., K.P. Hall." (see note 1 below)
Another postcard showing The Knights of Pythias Hall on fire. The Methodist Church can be seen in the upper right corner. The hall was not rebuilt and the Knights of Pythias shared a space in the new Odd Fellows Hall that was built in 1920 (postcard provided by the Kay Heflin)
Present photo close to where the people (in the postcard above) were standing watching the Knights of Pythias Hall on fire (from Google Maps, August 2014).
Article in the October 10, 1930 Rainier (Oregon) Review announcing the dedication of the new K.P. Hall in the former Mabaffey Building. It was located just west of the telephone office on the highway, or B street.
Photograph looking north showing the Mabaffey Building (center) that became the Knights of Pythias Hall and telephone office (at right). The building was also used later by the V.F.W.
The Knights of Pythias/VFW Hall was in the process of being demolished when a freak twister finished the job on November 10, 1965 (from the book "Reflections" by Eleanor Abraham page 23).
The only reminder that there was a Knights of Pythias in Rainier is the Knights of Pythias cemetery on Neer City Rd Records for this cemetery begin in 1883. Photo by Larry McCallister. Link to the Cemetery.
