HOMEWORK
Your child will be expected to spend 10-20 minutes per school night on
homework. The assignments may involve written work, reading, memory
work and/or oral practice.
hints...
Reading
* Some children are not yet ready to read
the whole
selection on their own. You may want to take turns reading with them.
* Reading should be fun. Try to quit
before your
child gets frustrated.
* Encourage your child to predict
what will happen
by looking at the pictures & remembering what they read at school.
* Try having them earn something for
having a good
homework attitude. Hugs & stickers might work. They could earn
points towards something larger, like TV time. (something short of a
new car or a trip to Hawaii)
Writing
* When your child is writing help them
organize
their thoughts. Have them repeat the sentence so they can get it set in
their mind before they write it down.* Some kids will need you to write what
they said
for them. Then, they can copy it.
* There is no point in doing their
homework for
them. They won't learn & it breaks down their confidence.
