Feb.
Penmanship- We're still working on the lower
case
script letters. We'll be
starting upper case letters next. We'll also continue practicing
connecting
the letters & reading in script.
Math-
Don't forget there are math games that go with most chapters on the 1st page of our class website. We are beginning to get into adding & subtracting with regrouping (carrying). It has never been more important for you to ensure that your child understands the homework. Remember that all the homework concepts are introduced and practiced at school before the homework goes home.
In order for you to have a better understanding of where your child is in Math Kit I've included a picture of the math kit chart. (Start at shamrock.) The children can start in the word problem part after they have completed red dot. They can work in math kit after their math assignment for the day is completed, or when they have free time.
Word problem kit includes; Carnival, Yard Sale, Food Court, Tops A-L and Farmer's market.
Our Valentine treats
will be served with lunch on the 14th . Valentine cards may be brought in any time now. Be sure to include a card for each child if you choose to send cards in.
The @
Home Book Reports came in. The kids are presenting their reports
to
the class. (Very cute!) Now they are displayed so they can
read each other's reports. 
Days
of School Celebration We will attempt to read, or be read to, for 100 minutes on our hundredth day of school.
Bring good reading matheial to school that day.to
Day 2 Feb. 18th
We will spend the afternoon participating in activities having to do with the number 100. This celebration includes all four 2nd grade homerooms and will run from 1:15 – 3:00.

For the next 2 months, while the school-wide reading incentive program is running, there will be no reading notes brought in. Instead a calendar will be sent home for you to record your child’s reading minutes.(form attached)
Social Studies-All the kids now are members of the young explorer’s club. We will be learning map skills and about our country. We’ll try to learn as many states in the USA as possible. There is a point system. This will be explained to your children. So, they should be able to explain it to you.
@ Home State Research Project- A state report will be assigned. Due date-TBA Directions will be sent home later. DON'T START YET!
