SOUL - iloquy
Isn't it intriguing how entrenched in the 'physical' we are, even while we pooh-pooh the physical component of our existence? We talk of something as abstract as 'thoughts', and then concretize those into almost physical, tangible, thought-forms! We personify *emotions*, of all things!! Ethereal feelings that we cannot even describe well enough to transfer the 'felt' experience (information), using our pathetically-limited set of word-symbols, that we feel so proud of as we look down upon the animals, that seemingly lack those and lay the foundation for our self-perceived existential superiority!
Little wonder then that our universal, deeply-felt but indescribable prime essence of existence, our *s*o*u*l*, becomes the target of our drive for somatization, and of our compulsion for reductionism! If we cannot expand our comprehension to encompass it, we will reduce it to fit within our 'box' and trim off the excess! Plethora is a sin anyway in these *healthy* times (another physical kick-off!!).
We talk of bodies! Vehicles!! We try to finitize > something as abstract as SOUL into a *soul-body* - a conceptual, concrete and manageable form that allays our fear of that which is infinite, inexplicable, incomprehensible!!
How can we reduce a 'function' into the limited 'form' of a machine and hope to understand it? We can conceive of a car as a form, but how can we understand motion by reducing it into the form of a car? A clock is conceivable, but not time!! A brain we can describe in physical terms in all its morbid details, but certainly not the mind!! Though difficult and enormous a task, we can reduce its intricacy and describe "creation" as a physical construct, but can we really justifiably do the same to its function, *t-h-e s-o-u-l*??
