I'm still not sure if these are all dull or not, but they're here anyway.
Weblogs (or blogs for the uninitiated) are one of the curiosities of the internet. People just write their diaries online, for all to see. And even worse, theyre often vaguely interesting to read. People who youve never met, never will meet and know nothing about. I have two favourites. The first is by James Aylett but Im slightly worried about him - he hasnt written anything in over a year. Hes probably just realised that life offers more delights than telling the world about how many cups of tea hes drunk, but...
Anyway. My other favourite is
James Bachman. He writes comedy (for people youve heard of as well).
Comedy. I like comedy. These people are funny. Dave Gorman Garth Marenghi Daniel Kitson Ross Noble Spaced
And, apart from Daniel Kitson, I've been six feet (or less) from everyone listed there. Yeah, that's right, look impressed...
There are more, if I can be bothered to think about which ones.
Nostalgia
For all your 1980s needs: TV Cream (A mammoth of a site, with its themes page being especially good) Watched It (Kids TV) The 80s Sever (Everything to do with the 80s. Ever) Oz Net Charts is an Australian site but it has all the UK number one singles going back to the 50s. Perfect for those games of What was number one when you were born? (The Model by Kraftwerk, if youre asking)
Music
Ever got a tune in your head but cant think of the specific song? Go to Catchy Tune Central and work out what it is.
Similarly, ever heard a song on an advert and wanted to know what it is? Commercial Breaks and Beats lists them all in various ways to help you work it out.
Misc
A lovely invention that seems to have temporariliy (I hope) disappeared is The Magic Lighthouse. It is a button that will take you to a completely random page anywhere on the internet. It was through this that I found: The Musuem of Online Museums. Among the gems you can find here are the Musuem of Soviet Calculators, the Etch-a-Sketch Gallery, the Moist Towlette Online Musuem, the Museum of pre-Prohibition Era Pschotropic Substances and many, many more delightful wonders.
'Not' The Colin Evans Homepage details the er, *interesting* events that went on in the English Literature department of Cardiff University. Where I study. Woman and Dogs is insane on every level. Yet again, strangely compelling for exactly that reason. And despite its name, its not at all rude, I promise.
