Slug: springhat For Bangsar Weekly By Clarence Koh Japanese food is gaining great acceptance not just because of its tantalising Sushi or Teppanyaki. It is the overall combination of colours, aroma and taste that gets people addicted to it. If you have been around Bangsar for some time, you would have noticed the Spring Hatsuhana Japanese Restaurant at the Bangsar Shopping Centre. Otherwise, you better start looking for it. Ten years in Bangsar, Spring Hatsuhana has become a great alternative for lunch or dinner for nearby officers and residents. With a wide range of authentic Japanese dishes to choose from, one will hardly be bored of dining here. According to Basir Roslan, the Manager of Spring Hatsuhana, amongst the most popular items at the restaurant are the chicken Teppanyaki, the range of Bento, the Teriyaki and also the Nabeyaki Udon. "Unlike counter teppanyaki you see elsewhere, you will find our meat served in a larger portion. The chicken, especially, comes in big juicy pieces. It also tastes really unique," Basir said. The assortment of teppanyaki comes in bigger chunks of meat. It has a better texture and the thick sweet sauce adds on to the flavour. It tastes even better if dipped into soy sauce with blended garlic. The Teriyaki is a dish of tender chicken cooked with thick sweet sauce, while the Nabeyaki Udon is a combination of Tempura prawn and vegetables with noodles. The Tempura is deep fried prawn which is crispy at the outside and splendidly succulent at the inside. Off the menu, Spring Hatsuhana also offers a different menu of set lunch daily, from Monday till Friday. Priced from RM15 and RM18, the set is very economical but at the same time also very scrumptious. Served with the set lunch, you have a choice of tea or coffee, free of charge. Basir's personal recommendation is the simply irresistible Sashimi. The raw seafood sets priced from RM10 to RM80, are imported from Europe and are guaranteed fresh. Amongst all, the Salmon Sashimi is highly recommendable. It is very tender but does not taste or smell fishy at all. "We have a wide variety of seafood, ranging from mackerel, salmon, eel, squid to pacific saury. They are either eaten raw, grilled or fried," he added. For those who must have rice for lunch or dinner, try the Gohanmono sets. These are rice dishes that are reasonably priced, only RM6 to RM30 per serving. The ingredients and fillings come in large portions. For a unique taste of Japanese noodles, it costs you only RM9 to RM15. Otherwise, there are lots of other specialities to choose from. For instance, the authentic Japanese appetisers, the Tofu, soups, salads, Nabemono, Yakiniku, grilled meats and more. Not forgetting the must -have, 'sake', which will complete your total Japanese experience at the restaurant. The well furnished restaurant is divided into two sections, the smoking as well as the non-smoking area. With a total of 90 seatings, one shall enjoy calm and serene dining here. With the waitress walking around in kimonos and Japanese music playing at the background, it might just be a refreshing experience to dine in Spring Hatsuhana.
