Slug: feikopi For Bangsar Weekly By Clarence Koh For busy executives who do not really have the time for lunch but would rather not ending up in fast food outlets anymore, Fei Fei Kopitiam might just be the place you want to dine in. The restaurant with the concept of a typical Malaysian coffee shop, has introduced the Tiffin 'X'press lunch set last December. The set offers a variety of local dishes served in traditional tiffin carriers, Monday till Friday. The tiffin carriers, which bring back the 1960's kopitiam's atmosphere, allow the dishes to be stacked over each other. Scrumptious but served in only an average time of seven minutes, the tiffin sets have become the favourite of many Bangsar area executives. Not just that it is economical and fast in serving, it is also very unique and tasty. The Tiffin 'X'press lunch set features three dishes with rice and a dessert. Different combination of dishes are served daily to give regular customers more variety. It costs only RM8.90 per person, with a minimum order of two persons. For instance, on Wednesdays the set includes telur berlada (fried bulls-eye with gravy and onions), bean sprouts with salted fish, chicken 'bak' steak, accompanied with rice, and a complimentary dessert of Look-Mei (six ingredients dessert) or Cendol. The Chicken Bak Steak is a Penang nyonya dish featuring chicken cutlets in barbecue sauce, chunks of potatoes with skin, green peas and Bombay onions. The chicken is extremely tender and best to eat with rice. Also sold separately at RM7.90 for a small serving or RM11.90 for a large one, it tastes even tastier with sambal belacan. Other specialities on the tiffin set menu include the steamed taufoo, stir fried long beans with belacan and prawns, nyonya chicken curry, chicken herbal soup, sweet 'n' sour chicken, Hainanese omelette and the shrimp omelette. "Fei Fei is based on the concept of old kopitiam. Our selection of food are from old time recipes like our grandmother generation. It is hard to be found else where now. We have a extensive range of Chinese, Hainanese, Teochew and Nyonya dishes on our menu," said Adrian Jackson, the restaurant manager. "We try to recreate and portray the old chinese coffee shop image here. By employing the elderly to serve food, usage of wood-based furniture and antiques, and playing chinese oldies in the background, we hope to give the customers a feel of yesterday," he added. Amongst the best selling items at Fei Fei Kopitiam are the Ipoh Hor Fun, Nyonya Curry Laksa, and the Penang Char Koay Teow. As for all the food served are halal, the outlet has gained great acceptance among non-Chinese as well. According to Adrian, in fact more than 30 per cent of their customers are non-Chinese. The Ipoh Hor Fun priced at RM9.90 is a meal of smooth Ipoh koay teow in clear delicious chicken soup, topped with steamed chicken, shelled tiger prawns and 'kau-choy'. Besides, the famous Penang char koay teow and the nyonya curry laksa are each sold at RM8.90 and RM9.90 per order. Fei Fei's chef has more than twenty years of experience in the kitchen. The nyonya chicken curry is her secret recipe featuring chicken and potatoes in thick curry gravy. Reasonably priced at RM11.90 or RM16.90 for a larger portion, it is indeed worth a try. The restaurant will be launching its new menu with specials like the sizzling beef platter, Fei Fei nasi lemak special, acar rampai and more, soon.
