One Faithful Heart
----------------------//--------------------
Time, it goes so fast
Like a river running past
And you're lucky if you find at last
Just one faithful heart
As Walker watched her
sleep, he realized what his father had meant by those words. The conversation
in which those words were spoken in was engraved into Walker's memory.
The day had been spent doing the usual chores. Walker helped his
father to find the evening meal. As they ventured off into the wood Walker took
in his surroundings; learning about the Earth and the way of life. After a
tiresome day his family decided to end the day early. It wasn't a bad idea
especially since to morrow was the carnival.
Unable to sleep due to the excitement of the next day's events,
Walker quietly roamed the house trying to calm himself. As he approached his
parent's room he noticed an outline of person. Curiosity overcame Walker as he
entered the room to see his father watching his mom sleep. Walker questioned
his father about his actions.
"Oh my young son, you want so much to understand everything.
Time, it goes so fast...Like a river running past...And you're lucky if
you find at last...Just one faithful heart...So I watch her as she sleeps...All
curled up in her dreams...Somewhere beneath the quilt and sheets...Gently beats
one faithful heart. Some when you find that one faithful heart that
beats for you welcome it. Time is too precious and you never know what tomorrow
holds."
His father spoke the
truth for the next day changed Walker's life forever. His parents were brutally
murdered in front of him while at the carnival because of hatred. Walker's life
was full of pain and sorrow, but that one faithful heart had brought a joy to
his life that he never thought he would have a chance to experience. Of course
they had their up and downs, but As constant as the northern star...And
as sure as gravity...Her love makes me complete...Makes my life so sweet.
As the sun rose, she
turned trying to avoid the morning light. Reaching out to grasp her husband,
she found emptiness instead. This night will slip on by..Soon She'll open
up her eyes...And I will see the light that shines...From just one faithful
heart.
"Good morning, Alex," Walker said as he came over to
his wife and gently placed a hand on her stomach.
Rolling over on her back Alex blinks in an attempt to clear
sleepiness from her bright blue eyes. "You're up early. Anything
wrong?"
"No, I was just admiring the view. How are the two of
you?" he asked rubbing his hand in a circular motion over her abdomen.
"Good, but she wants out. Her kicking kept me up most of the
night."
"In about a week she'll be here."
"I know," Alex replied smiling. "Oh Walker, I've
never been so nervous and happy at the same time."
"Alex, we'll be
great parents, just wait and see," Walker comforted as he gave his wife a
kiss...I live to see that light that shines...From just one faithful
heart.
Soon. Soon he would be blessed with yet another faithful heart.
The one of his daughter!...As constant as the northern star...And as sure
as gravity...Her love makes me complete...Makes my life so
sweet.
