First, the new Claremont Hotel traffic light. It now clogs up Tunnel Road all the way to Warren Fwy interchange at most peak hours. Cars now idle, while before traffic moved. I estimate that the traffic light increased our exhaust pollution by 500%. Second: extra rooms. Consider the extra load on electric power. Last few days PG&E had to implement rotating brownouts. We were lucky not to have it. This extra load is like adding 200 homes to the area. Brownouts, or worse, are certain!

I'm extremely concerned about nosie pollution , air pollution, degredation of environment due to removal of mature plantings, affect on wildlife; also as a Zoning Board member in Berkeley, the massing and bulk might be detrimental within meaning of Berkel y's Zoning ord., which unfortunately isn't applicable since all the detriment affects citizens living in Berkeley. There should be an approach the trancends strict borders here. I believe Don Perata is attempting to do this in other areas and his approa h might be a model.

Great Web Page--lots of excellent information with good suggestions. The Claremont needs to be stopped!!! "They paved Paradise and put up a parking lot." What about attacking the traffic easements? It seems that traffic is one of the major problems in this area and the lure of additional parking in a trendy area will only cause more traffic and accidents. Keep up the good work! Horselady
