About Us
With over twenty years in the horse industry, Heather Clare has seen the good and seen the bad. Over the years she has learned much, most having been taught by those who teach us best, our animals. Having studied under some of the best and most dedicated trainers, she has learned there are two ways to do things, the easy way and the hard way, the hard way working against or for your aniamls, the easy way, working with them. Having watched horses ruined by 'innovative' Heather has learned that the newest methods are not always the best methods.

With a great love for horses Heather followed her dreams to begin a small breeding farm and purchused her first broodmares. Her partner and her, both great animal lovers believed that showing a small group of mares and foals individual care and love, that you could raise happy, well adjusted, bombproof horses. It is with this beliefe that Heather cares for every horse, watching, learning and compensating the way she works to match that of the horse she works with.

"You can't work for a horse, and you can't work against them, either is a dangerous way to train, you must work with a horse, to be safe, and to have the respect of the animal you are working with." Its by this moto that Heather runs her breeding farm and her Equine Basic Care Course. She discovered the need for this while grooming her horse one day at the barn when she was approched by a father who had no knowleadge about horses, but who's daughter was very much into riding. After spending close to an hour answering his questions and helping to educationg on the horse he had just bought for his little girl, she came to realise this was not an isolated incident, a great deal many parents buy their kids horses and never know anything about their care or upkeep.

In 2008 Heather started the Equine Basic Care Course, for those parents who wished to know more, sot hat they too could be a part of their kids horse world.

In 1999 Heather met the love of her life, Kenneth Hepburn, in 2003 their first daughter was born, Emily, who is just as horse crazy as her mother. In 2007 her second daughter was born, Allana, and it would seem she too will be a great animal lover. Kenneth, Heather and their two daughters live in Debert N.S. with their two dogs and rottweiler named Jade and a Shepard Lab rescue named Dakota, as well as their two broodmares Precious and Amber.

In 2003 the family had two great losses in only a month, shortly after their first daughter was born they lost their best friend of 9 years, Nearly Ready, an ex-race horse, Nearly was a standardbred gelding and a wonderful protective horse who watched over his people the way a stallion would his herd. You would often see him standing head over his stall guard, reaching out for Kenneth to pull him under his chin in a horse hug, or playing 'push the button' with Heather. As the years passed his bond only grew, often nudging his owners away from precieved danger, never bolting to drag them behind but protecting them bodily as he saw fit.

The other great loss was that of Shilo, a beautiful blond beagle lab mix rescue, she showed up at the end of their family home when Heather was just a child, she was two at the time, and she chose to never leave. Shilo was much loved, often getting knocks on the door from neighborhood kids to see if she could come out to play. She shared Heather's pillow at night and when Kenneth came along she willingly relinquished the pillow for a soft beanbag chair that was all hers. Wonderfully playful Shilo wounld bound around the yard at full speed, leaping and bounding and playing for all her heart, she truely understood the meaning of love. She would come to the school to wait for Heatehr to get off and would follow Heather EVERY WHERE Heather went. Though she never forgot her past, always exhibiting the signs of a dog who had suffered great abuse. At the age of seventeen Shilo took a stroke just before bed time, causing her to lose almost all her motor function, leaving her walking in circles and unable to focus. She spent one final night with her loving family, then was humanely euthanised the next mornign while being craddled in her 'mothers' arms, Heather held her to her last breath, then took her home to lay her to rest where she was loved.
