Ken Normile
The greatest Normile who ever lived. Hoping to continue this work after I'm dead.

Olympic Fencer
He was in Olympics in 1992 in Spain. I believe and was champion in College. He is from Ohio and lives in NY now. Was on a list of survivers of Set 11 in NY. I know he worked for a big brokerage firm.

Gene Normile

Eugene (Gene) was born in Denver, Colo in 1885. His father had relations in Wis near GreenBay. 1930 census says his father(Thomas Francis Normile) was "French Canadian" but may have only moved form there and been originally form Ireland as other censuses suggest. Family lived in Missouri for a time. I think I found a link between this family and the family of M.C.Normoyle(born in Troy NY 1853), Normoyle in Pennsylvania and Canada . My father claimed he was his cousin.
He was a telegrapher in Butte Montana for a while. He ran a horseracing track in Tijuana, Mexico and others in California. He also designed horse racing tracks.
During the Kefauver hearings of 1950 into the Mafia's controll of Las Vegas, John Roselli, Mafia head of Las Vegas was interviewed. "Later in the testimony Roselli admitted working as a torpedeo for Gene Normile, who operated the Nationwide wire service for Moe Annenberg in the middle Thirties.? Roselli is the guy who later was the go-between between mafia and CIA during their attempts to get Castro killed.

Wire service was how gansters controlled gambling back then. Toredeo was a thug.

Manager and business manager of Jack Dempsy heavyweight boxing champ. Read about him in any of the books by or about Jack Demsey. Gene grandson told me of Dempsey coming over to the house when he was a kid to visit Gene. The book about Seabiscuit the famous racehorse has alot of info that Gene Normiles daughters and grandson provided to the auther. Gene also was involved with Phar Lap another famous horse back inthe 1930s.BR>

Fort Normoyle
Picture

James E. Normoyle
1889 Graduate of West Point. "He distinguished himself and gainded national recognition with his leadership of two massive relief operations the aided the victims of major floods in the US." He was in charge of the 1914 Reunion of Civil war vertans at Gettysburg. Born in Mich in 1866 a year later the family moved to Rock Island Ill. where they still live.

Fort Normoyle was part of Fort Kelly outside of San Antonio Texas. It was named after him around the First World War and at one time occupied 88 acreas and had 100 buildings. If you write the base Historian at Fort Kelly he will send you lots of biographical info, as well as pictures. Be sure to complain that the name was changed.
There is a Normoyle Park in San Antionio, Texas somewhere.
Now, there are the Normoyle Longhorns Pop Warner peewee football team that is based at Normoyle Park.

Judge Normy
James C Normile Arrives shortly after the Civil War in St Louis in Missouri. worked as lawyer for awhile, but by 1876 was Processecuting attorny in the Criminal Court. By 1891 was Judge in Criminal Court.
He became involved in some conflict with a newpaper publisher. After a week of resting he decieded not to kill the guy and shot himself instead. A History of St Louis says "he had a sensitive nature". He was refused burial at Catholic cenetary I believe because he had become a "pagan", and killing himself didn't help.

There was another Judge Normoyle in Chicago when my father was young(1930s). I found a picture of him on the internet in a collection of Chicago Tribune photos. His family came from Newcastlewest to Chicago in the early 1870s and worked in the pork packing plants Chicago was famous for back then.

Last but not least, the greatest Normy Judge--Bruce Normile of Edina, Missouri. He came over to the house in Kansas City once and told me many stories of his family in Missouri and Montana. The Juvinile Justice Center in Kirksville Missouri is named after him and should be on every ones Normy tourist attraction list.

India
I found in the New York 1880 Census a Normy who was born in India and had moved to NY City and was a shoemaker. Recently one of this familes decendants made contact with Bryce Normoyle of Melbourne.
These were marriages in India. #s refer to records

"Raewyn Winks" Subject: NORMOYLE Date: Sun, 26 Sep 1999 15:20:29 +1200 Hi, I am new to the list. My g/g/g/g/grandfather Patrick NORMOYLE was a sergeant in the 31st Regiment of Foot. He married Mary in Bengal, 1827. I have the certificate of the birth in 1827, in Meerut, of my g/g/g/ grandmother Ellen NORMOYLE. There is also record of the births of Mary Anne, Richard, Thomas, Catherine, Michael, and John at either Meerut or Kurnaul. Ellen NORMOYLE married Thomas LUCAS, also of 31st Regiment of Foot, in Bombay, 1844-46. He was pensiond out of the army and they came to New Zealand in 1852. I don't know anything else about the NORMOYLES- whether they returned to Ireland or remained in India. Any help would be appreciated. helper posted this---The 31st Foot (Huntingdonshire) went to India in 1825 and remained there until 1846 when they returned to England. During that time they took part in the campaigns in Kabul in 1842 and the 1st Sikh War of 1845/46 during which the suffered the highest battle casualties of any other British unit (131 killed, 380 wounded) as they were at all 5 of the major actions (Moodkee, Ferozeshah, Budeewal, Aliwal & Sobraon).

BLACK NORMY
Not kidding--I found a black Normoyle family in the 1930 census in Ciaro Illinois. I also saw Normoyle in an earlier Illinois census in Ciaro Illinois. At that time I was only interested in the family in Chicago and since then can't find them again in census untill later.
In 1900 Census In Memphis,Tennesse was a John Normoile 29 born 1871 Prisoner in the Memphis jail. Before the Civil War(1861-1865) there were Normys in three southern states. Virginia, St. Louis in Missouri, and New Orleans in Louisiana. My best guess is a Normoyle in New Orleans owned one or more but not many and when freed took the name like many Blacks did of their beloved former owners. Before being freed they only were given first names. There were several Normiles in St Louis pre Civil War but they were poor laborers, and Virginia is too far away. Ciaro, Illinois, Memphis and New Orleans are all on the Mississippi River. Ciaro is also the first place in a free state going up the river. I guess if your not born Normy and can't marry one the next best thing is to be owned by one.

Traveler
Recently the Irish Travels in the US gained alot of attention when one of them was caught on film beating her little baby. It was shown non-stop for weeks and the till then little know Travelers got alot of attention. I recently found some info on something my brother had told me which I assumed was just BS from him. Copied below is the story of another famous cousin. I think it showed alot of immigination and sense of humor and I hope she finds some better partners next time.

"I'm sure there are many upstanding citizens among the estimated 10,000-plus Irish Travelers in the United States, but more than a few Travelers have been involved in some ugly escapades. In 1992, a brother-sister team of Irish Travelers created a rape-and-robbery scenario in a Walt Disney World hotel. Wanda Mary Normile, a k a Wanda Mary Burke, a k a Wanda Mary Cleveland, a k a Leah Ann Kelly, then 21, had consensual sex with a partner (who didn't know about the scam) in a nearby hotel, so that there would be evidence of recent sexual contact. She then got a room at the Caribbean Beach Resort on Disney property, and, with her consent, her 33-year-old brother bound her to a bed with duct tape and beat her repeatedly with a stick. Normile then contacted police and told a horrifying tale of being beaten, raped and robbed by a man "in a Dracula costume" while her 10-month-old daughter was in the room. Several months after reporting the "rape" to police, Normile filed suit against Disney, which offered her a $200,000 settlement. She refused the money and asked for more than $1 million, but the hoax was uncovered after investigators received a tip from a disgruntled relative. The brother died of an undisclosed illness in March 1994. Two months later, Normile pleaded guilty to grand theft and falsely reporting a crime, and was sentenced to 3-1/2 years in prison"

Travelers' Update (5/28/00)
More on the Travelers. Stone Phillips hosted a TV show about Travelers that appeared on The Discovery Channel during May 2000. It was probably a repeat of a Dateline show from 1996. According to that show, Wanda Mary Mary Normile, a young, female traveler, and one male and one female cohort had conspired to sting Disney World for three million dollars by staging her rape in a Disney hotel. She had intercourse with a male acquaintance to plant semen. She had another her male conspirator beat the crap out of her face. This was going to be a legendary Traveler scam, one that Travelers would talk about for years. Disney was ready to pay, when Wanda Mary's female conspirator turned her in after a squabble over who was going to hold the money. The court sentenced Wanda Mary to 18 months for grand theft.

Sister Ethel Normoyle
Sister Ethel Normoyle Future Saint
Missionvale is considered to be one of the most poverty stricken communities in the greater Port Elizabeth area of South Africa. She is quit famous for helping the poor in this area. I copied a bit of info from various places o the internet. I first heard that the English Queen mentioned cousin Ethel in her Chrismass Message a few years ago. Not that being mentioned by that parasite is important but when even they acknowledge someone its noteworthy.

I've tried to find the address with no luck.

Missionvale began ten years ago when Sr. Ethel Normoyle moved to this area looking for the poor, as she says.
She used to visit people in their shacks every day, and gradually established a base for herself under a tree. Here she set up a soup kitchen and began to help people develop their own resources to help themselves.
Today Missionvale boasts a clinic which treats 170 patients a day for aliments and diseases such as TB and AIDS; a pre-school, a kitchen sourced with homegrown vegetables, a community center, and various projects responding to the needs of the people With no state funding, Ethel still manages to feed as many as 1, 000 people a day. Raising funds to build a church is community priority in a district in which poverty remains a problem. Two taps provide water for a community of hundreds in an area the Eastern Province Herald calls dreadfully deprived

"It is the community of Missionvale that preserves the buildings and gardens and they are proud of their efforts. There is no discrimination the team helps those with HIV, tuberculosis, the jobless and the homeless and they try to feed up to 600 to 700 people a day. Sister Ethel Normoyle of Co Clare has a great environment campaign up and running. The community collects any recyclable product from the outlying areas and this not only cleans up the local area and preserves the environment, but also raises much-needed funds for the centre. They have a primary school with 60 pupils and one teacher as well as a pre-primary facility with 120 pupils."

Lissycasey News Items....
A great occasion for Sr. Ethel
The work of Sr. Ethel Normoyle in Missionvale in South Africa has, rightly, won much praise all over the World. Lissycasey native Ethel has spearheaded many developments in Missionvale over the years and these include the provision of a school and a health Centre. Since returning from her last visit to Lissycasey three years ago, she has spearheaded the provision of a work shelter for teenagers Her latest project was the building of a Church, the official opening of which will take place next week. The Church will be known as Our Lady of the Wayside Church, which is also the name of the church in Lissycasey. A spokesperson for Sr. Ethel this week paid tribute to the people of Lissycasey for their great support for Sr. Ethel's work over the years and again for their most recent contribution last weekend.

Normile Street

Normile Steet in all its glory

In Dearborn Michigan. I wrote the mayor to find out the story, and he sent me the street sign. Get yours today. Street was named for Elizabeth (Normile) Oakman, mother of Robert Oakman who was the developer of the neighborhood in NE Dearborn where the street is. Its near the Ford plant

The brother and I were in Detroit and stopped by for the sureal experience of seeing my name on the sign. The street is only 5 blocks long, and we drove up and down for awhile.

Normys of the old west
"Along in the '80s(1880s), the Barlow boys, local terrors from Union township, put a few dashes of red paint on the town, on one or two occasions. About the same time they robbed the postoffice at Normanville and shot Mrs. Normile, wounding her seriously. The Police Gazette published pictures of "the boys" and gave an account of their raids. "
This incident was famous because it was soon after the death the famous Missouri outlaw Jesse James. James was killed 20 miles east in St.Joe Mo and the eastern papers were looking for things to report on how wild the west was. The "barlow boys" were trying to steal liquor from the store the Normiles had which was attached to the post office. The son William was argueing and shoving with the Barlows and somehow when Mrs Normile came in she wa slightly wounded. The publicity was out of proportion to the events. This all took place in what is now SW Donaphan Co Kansas. This is in Ne part of Kansas.

Normys in Montana
Several Normiles from Ohio and Edina Missouri(same family) went to Montana before the turn of the century where at least one was a sherrif in an old westen town.

M.C.Normoyle born in Troy NY was in Colorado as a teen where he worked in various hotels. He later ran several hotels for the railroads in Colorado and Utah. He ended up in Idaho where he built a hotel and owned land. Some of his famiiy from Pennsylvania also moved out there as well. I think he was related to Gene Normile who was born in Denver Colorado in 1885 and is also in this section.
Another Normy had been a "soldier" in same part of Idaho in the 1880 census. I suspect this isn't a coincidence.

Normile School, Town of Normoyle, and Normoyle Station

I couldn't find the school when I was up there. William Normile (above) who lived in the county was on the local school board and I think also in Ks legislature for a time. Station is probably the old train station at Fort Leavenworth Kansas, where the famous prison also is. I am not sure of this and will write base historian. Only real town in the county is Leavenworth and its not their trainstation. I saw on internet a mention of a town of Normoyle which doesn't seemto be there anymore and can't find anything about it. Just one mention.

James Robert (Bob) Normile. He was copilot for Gen Douglas MacArthur in WW2.

His daughter Kathy Normile national champion figure skater in early 70s and stared in Ice Follies and Holiday on Ice. They are from Bloomington, Illinois area. Famiy arrived there by 1860s and some worked on RR.
