High above the glittering city of Castellum deGens, deep in the heart of the ancient hills that the humans call the Appalachians, I make my home. I do not know how I got here or how I came to be. I just know that I have always called this mountain my home. I have vague memories of another taking care of me when I was quite young, but they are few and scattered. I do not remember a face or even a voice. All I know is that they were there and then they were not. Afterwards, it was just me.
Within the
encircled shadows of the culverts of my home, the gray-green
foliage spills, rustling, whispering to me-- promises of safety shaped
by the rising evening breeze. The vines help hide my cavern home
which is also partially hidden by a waterfall.
Deep inside are the relics of an ancient
human dwelling. It is my belief that a wizard or mage of some sort
once lived here, for the library the cave contains has many spell books
and incantations amongst them. The books and all
the furnishings, however, have the dust of a
hundred years on them, so I know their owner has been long dead.
Still, I have read every single word of the pages that fill my secret
library and it is from them that I have some knowledge
of the world beyond.
Outside my cavern home, where the shades of the forrest blend with the charcoal shadows of twilight that flow beneath a glittering trace work of stars high above me, I find my second home: the sky. It is here I make my celestial dance, especially after a rainstorm. :) The passing stars are my dancing partners and bestow upon me a heavenly kiss. The black velvet of night is my ballroom. The diaphanous ghost of the moon is my friend. It is here where I love to be most in the world. It is here where I draw my energy. For you see, I am a child of Nature, itself, for I command the lightning of the skies.
When chilled with the promise of rain, the air crackles with the static electricity of lightning that flashes amongst the clouds in which I fly high in the sky. Dancing amongst their wispy fingers, I stretch my hands outwards to catch the bolts and to gain lightning energy. I do not know why I can do this or what its purpose is for. Perhaps the answers lie within my unknown past. All I know is that the lightning comes to me naturally, always to my hands. Afterwards I feel more alive and rejuvenated than I had before. But the effect will always fade, especially as I use the power, and then I crave for more.
Recently, I have left my mountain home to investigate the myriad of lights that have always beckoned to me from a distance. They belong to the human city of Castellum deGens. It is there that I stumbled across the human mage, Lisette, who had recently awakened from a thousand-year sleep. She is, at times, as new to this world as I. She has become my best friend and comrade. Together, we have pledged to protect the habitat of Castellum deGens and to safeguard the mysterious golden egg of the slain gargess, Sunshine. We have made our home in a ghostly mansion named Janua Caeli. It is here that we protect the egg from the villain, Storm, and his evil witch of a wife, Shaylyn. It is our hope that we will be be joined by others who will share our sisterhood and help us bring about an end to the evil duo.
Despite all of this, I still love sailing above the clouds. There is just something wonderful, magical about becoming one with the black sea of the night sky. A stray moonbeam often silvers the wings of my eyebrows. My eyes are two gray-green mysterious oceans that commune with the celestial light of the stars. My dark brown hair captures moonfire in its twist of a braid. For you see, this is still where I truly belong and at home - amongst the clouds of the night sky, doing my celestial dance. For this is who I am: Skydancer.
