Welcome to CLAN BEAVER web site. My name is Duce Bowen. I am a member of the Seneca Nation of Indians, Salamanca, New York. I am a member of the Beaver Clan.
Being an historian and storyteller, I only tell stories and histories of my people. I do not use material or cultural matters of other native groups. I have shared these stories and lectures from first grade to college and university levels from New Jersey to California and points in-between.
I specialize in "modern" stories. These stories are ones heard during my lifetime. They are not myths or legends which can be found all over New York State in practically every library, having been recorded many times. My forte is the ever-popular 'spook' story which is evident in my published collections.
These are stories I heard as told by our moms, dads, uncles, cousins and the greatest of all storytellers - our grandmas. These were hunting stories, war stories, drinking stories and the most popular - ghost stories.
The purpose of this site is to share and make available information on Seneca history and storytelling. I will not venture into the religious, political or linguistical aspects of my culture.
My books are made available as well as other titles. If you are interested in my books and if you have any questions, you may contact me at
[email protected]
I will entertain questions with the idea that I can answer in a sentence or two; please do not send questions which require extensive research or mini-course answers.
I hope you like this site. Please sign the guest book before you leave.
