The question is: Is it purple because JonnieGod says it's purple, or is it really purple?
The answer is complicated and unclear, but here's the evidence. If you look very close at a single spore of 'purple' biomass, one that is in a hex all alone, you will see that it is made up of 54 dots.
The outline is made up of this color (F7D7E7 or 247,142,214), which is a shade of pink that is so light, it looks white. 21 dots in all.
There are six dots of this color (F78ED6 or 247,215,231) which is very close to pink, but used here to highlight the 'sunny' side of the spore.
There are six dots of this color (4A0831 or 74,8,49) which is a purple so dark it's almost black, used here as the 'stem' of the spore.
There are 13 dots of this color (B5005A or 181,0,90) that make up the main part of the spore. This color is a redish shade of purple.
There are 3 dots of this color (FF0063 or 255,0,99) that are also used to highlite the 'sunny' side of the spore. This color is a very bright redish purple.
Finally, there are 5 dots of this color (EF00AD or 239,0,173) that are also used on the 'sunny' side of the spore. This color is a slightly redish purple.
And this is the part where you say that I'm being biased, so here's my reference material.
For reference, the Microsoft accepted color code for purple is this color (800080 or 128,0,128).
And the Microsoft accepted color code for pink is this color (FFC0CB or 255,192,203).
I also found this color (CC54CC or 204,84,204) defined as purple on a website (no longer available) called Wally's Box O' Crayons.
Wally defines pink as this color (FF99BA or 255,153,186).
Adding all of this up, taking out the 20 dots for the outline, you can see that of the 34 remaining dots, there are 7 pink dots used for highlighting, and 27 purple (shades of anyway) dots to make up one 'purple' spore. Now, if all these colors haven't made you sick, you can see that without a doubt, I've proven that I had entirely too much free time at work today.
