Rant #9: Mercy

Clan Pixie had been at war with Clan ForkLift from the beginning. ForkLift's anti-migration policy had tagged a few Pixie breeders but on the whole his net had failed miserably at preventing access to orange. There was only the odd skirmish in the early days but after a month or two ForkLift had pushed his luck too far and a horde of angry Pixies was unleashed. Storming north came waves of Pixie fighters, joined by his friends Clan Enzyme and Clan Ego. With the help of some good terrain ForkLift managed to slow the advance north, even kept it to a standstill at times. But gradually the biomass gradient began to tell. The orange advantage became the purple advantage and ForkLift was forced to enlist the help of a few friends.

A massive front stretching west to east was formed. Each side had its own small victories, but it was clear who had the upper hand. This fact was hammered home to the friends of ForkLift when the Pixie and Enzyme paratroopers landed in the north and Halls started to get hit. Clan Nemesis sadly lost his hall but the others managed to escape. All that remained was ForkLift's Hall, hidden from sight behind the resolute southern front. Enzyme scouts had tried in vain to locate the Hall. However, the southern front was weakening and it seemed victory would come in a few weeks.

Suddenly ForkLift disappeared.

What was Pixie and Enzyme to do? The southern front was a mere shadow of its former self. Should they wait for ForkLift's return, if indeed he was to return? No, sitting on backsides twiddling thumbs was not an option.

Marching forth throwing aside the token resistance of ForkLift's friends, Pixie and Enzyme stumbled across a small patch of purple in a sea of orange. This purple was adjacent to a large transgate and it was plainly obvious where the purple had come from. A lynch mob was prepared, but was it to be used? Five months of battling ForkLift… should it end in a hollow victory on the return of his Hall?

Diplomacy had never been a strong ForkLift trait, luckily he was a fast learner. Before his return and fearing for his demise, he shared some knowledge with his bitter foes. An agreement was reached. Pixie and Enzyme would not claim their rightful victory. Instead they'd go on to greater things. ForkLift was spared.
