But Mary Huschak LeDonne, 66, and her best friend, Marian Spurio Geletto, 67, both graduates of the class of 1957, will be in the marching corps. Both former Honey Bears, Mrs. LeDonne and Mrs. Geletto will carry their original high school batons and march with the alumni band from the high school up Miller Avenue to the stadium. At the stadium, the women will be part of the halftime show.

"Her and I, we said, 'Before they plant us in the ground, we want to march one more time,' " Mrs. LeDonne said. The women, both of Elizabeth Township, performed 26 years ago with another alumni band that formed at the time.

To prepare, they've been practicing with the other alumni for two hours every Saturday and Sunday for the past several weeks at a dance studio. This week, they'll hold two practices at the football field.

"We are still doing the kicks and jumps and steps," Mrs. LeDonne said.

Another member of the alumni band, Don Taylor, 75, will carry the American flag. While in high school, Mr. Taylor was a trombone player in the marching band. Though he hasn't played in years, Mr. Taylor, of Elizabeth Township, didn't want to pass up the chance to march.

The parade route will be about three-quarters of a mile uphill, Mr. Taylor said. For the alumni marchers, he expects it to bring back memories of their high school times, when the streets were lined with thousands of people for the Friday night parades.

"The town, at its peak, had about 30,000 and the stadium could seat between 6,000 and 8,000," Mr. Taylor said.
