Do You Remember what we did before TV?

During the school year and summer vacation, we were outdoors playing games or sports. Games Like: Marbles, Run Sheep Run, Kick the Can, Capture the Flag, Horse Shoes, Jump Rope, Hopscotch, Baseball, Football, Basketball, Softball, and many other playground activities.

When it got dark, we listened to the Radio. Programs like: Jack Benny, George Burns and Gracie Allen, Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy (Mortimer Snerd), Amos & Andy, The Hit Parade, The Lone Ranger & Tonto, Superman, Batman & Robin, Green Lantern, Inner Sanctum, Gangbusters, Jack Armstrong--the All American Boy and don't forget...Captain Midnight.

We listened to the Pirates on KDKA. Do you remember the play-by-play announcers? Rosy Rosewell and Bob Prince (the Gunner). Some of the old time players...Pie Trayner, Akey Vaughn, the Waner Brothers, Max Butcher and my all-time favorite, Ralph Kiner.

I'm sure you remember many more. Have I whet your appetite for the good old days...games, radio, and the Pirates.

Bring your favorites to the 55th Reunion in August 2007. See you there---the Good Lord willing the creek don't rise.

The Terrace Hitman Jerry Janosko.
