i just read a widow for one year.

i've been too busy to read as much as i would like, although i still try to read at least a chapter a night; not doing so makes me crazy and i am convinced i sleep more poorly without it. reading has, therefore, become more precious to me and i am more careful about what i select for reading material.

i thought i was safe with john irving. i had saved the new book for the perfect moment because i have never been disappointed with his novels. i guess i really wasn't disappointed in this one, more like underwhelmed. i kept waiting for it to grab me but the whole thing seemed like an intricate preface to the real book, only the real book never arrived.

and i absolutely hated the ending. hated it.
