Summary - The idea I had for my website is sort of like a personal blog. I want a way to get my artwork out there as well as be able to have a sort of online journal of relatable and motivational content.
Content - I want to share my artwork on this site. I think it would be a great way to start being able to actually sell prints and stickers among other things. The site will have a shop, and a shopping cart feature. There will also be a main blog section with smaller sub-sections of things such as workouts, meal ideas, outfit inspiration, etc. Content for the site will come mostly from me. My own words and images will be used, or credit will be given to whoever the content came (such as a recipe I tried from another site).
Competition - One blog that I looked at a lot was The Bucket List Family’s site. They are a family was travels around the world documenting all their experiences for others to read, as well as selling some merchandise. Some features I liked from this site is that use of large pictures on the home screen, as well as on every page. They tell a lot of stories on the site but grab the viewers’ attention with the photos. I like their use of the main menu feature bar that always stays at the top of the screen so that it is always easily accessible. At the bottom of each page, there are more photos that work as links to other sections of their site as well as to their YouTube channel. I think linking social media is a very important thing. Their home page consists of their title and a video that plays on the top which I think is super captivating and helps with viewer interaction. I like how they use of sort of transparent black overlay over some photos in order to have the words be the focus. I don’t love the colors they use but I do like how a lot of it is somewhat neutral unless it is a photo. The website has a lot going on, and was kind of confusing to figure out at first though. I think this is because they don’t specifically show where to access the blog. They do a lot of work on YouTube though, which is their own type of blog. I’m not huge into video editing so my website will mostly contain of written blogs with photos.
Purpose - The purpose of building this site is mainly as a way for me to be able to have an updated history of my life to show to current and future family and friends. It is also a good step in branding building and getting my name and design portfolio on the internet. Like other blogs, users will be able to read and find motivation to relating to the content, as well as be able to purchase artwork.
Desired Results - I sort of talked about this in the purpose section but I want to be able to connect with users through this site. I want to use it as a social platform to be able to keep an updated journal as well as sell product.
Target Audience - People that could benefit from this site will probably mostly be college age and young adults. This demographic of people are the ones who will most likely relate to content on the site. The shopping feature of the site though expands this demographic to all ages of people who are looking for new artwork and designs.
