| Chapter 4 - A strange feeling Ncky looked at me, the same old sparkle in his piercing blue eyes. "Charlotte....isn't it beautiful.....all of the village lit up like this." I nodded in agreement. "Yes, isn't it. Sitting up on this hill gives you the most beautiful view...you can see the entire district." "I know - it's wonderful." Nicky's irish accent sounded perfect - I loved it when he spoke. "I love you Nicky....I really do. I mean, I was so scared..when you were in the accident." "You weren't the only one! I really thought I'd had it Charlotte. Thank goodness the ambulance came when it did." "I know - it made me realise though Nicky - how important you really are to me, how much I love you." "I love you too Charlotte." "I know that - not everyone would save their girlfriends from getting run over, and put themselves in danger." "It was because I love you - I always will. I'll always be with you Charlotte...always....." "AAgghhh" I sat upright in bed. The window had flew open, and woke me up. I turned and saw the curtain blowing through the window - it was so windy. I got up, and shut it - there was a draught coming through it, and I was getting cold. I rubbed my eyes, to wake myself up a bit. I had drifted off to sleep, and had been having a nice dream....of Nicky and I, and how thing's might be now. We had been sitting on the top of the hill, the hill we used to walk up so many times, and watch the stars at night. I sighed, and got dressed. "Nicky....if only you were here." I looked at the photo by my bedside. It was of Nicky and I. It was taken a couple of months before he died, at the park. We were both sitting on the infamous park bench. Nicky had both of his arms around me....we looked so happy. I sat down, remembering that day as if it were yesterday....... "Ouch! Charlotte, you're squashing my legs!" I jumped up off of nickys lap. "Sorry! I'll site beside you instead, I think that'll be better." "No Charlotte, sit on my lap." I looked at Nicky, he was smiling. "Okay - here I come!" I sat down on his lap. My mother was poised with the camera: "Are you two not ready yet? Hurry up!" Nicky kissed me, and then put his arms around me. "Right, we're ready aren't we Charlotte." "Yep Mum, we're ready!" My mum had gone to take the photo, when she realised she hadn't loaded up the camera film. "Sorry guys - there's a minor hitch." "Mum....what have you done." "There's no camera film in the camera." "Oh you're joking - after all that fuss." He kissed my neck. "Won't be long - I'm loading the film in now." "I hope you're Mum hurries up Charlotte - my legs are going to sleep here." "It'll be ready in a minute Nicky, don't worry! You're knee's are pretty boney to sit on you know!" "Cheeky! I have lovely knees....!" "Yeah, they're sexy really.... oh, Mum's ready!" "Right guys, it's loaded in at last! Say cheese." We both smiled, and Mum took the photos. Then I got up from Nicky's lap. "Oh, me legs....help me up Charlotte." I pulled Nicky up, but he could hardly stand. He began to laugh - me legs...they're all tickly....." I smiled and looked back at my bedside photo - what a laugh it had been that day, and what a fuss it had been just to take that photo. Still it had been worth it. It had been a lovely day that day, sun shining brightly...not like the day it was today. "If only you were here Nicky - you'd make everything alright again." Suddenly my window burst open again, the curtain blowing around everywhere. "I'm going to have to get something done about this window." I got up and shut it once more. I eventually decided to go and make myself something to eat - I had the house to myself, as my mum was out at a friends, and wouldn't be back for some time. "Hmmm - what shall I have?" I asked myself, as I looked in the kitchen cupboards. I was looking in the cupboards, when I this feeling come over me - it was a strange feeling, as if someone was in the kitchen with me. For some reason I didn't want to turn around though - I just stood still holding my glass of water, with my back to the kitchen door. Eventually I turned around. I saw no one there, but felt something around my ankles. I screamed, and dropped the glass of water - the glass shattered on the floor, nd water went everywhere. I then realised it had been my cat rubbing around my ankles. I saw him run off as I dropped the glass. I still felt uneasy though - that feeling was still there - it was as if someone or something was watching me. |
