| Part 14 (Robyn) I walked back to my room, upset but angry too, he had to let go, some day, would I wait for him to do that? I sat on the bed, realiseing that it was actually his room and not my own I was in. I looked around, his stuf was scattered everywhere. I noticed his wallet lying and decided to open it. Inside, was a picture of the four of them together, well, no surprise there, but also one of me and the kids. Strange I thought. I sat on the bed again and thought. Suddenly there was a quiet knock at the door, it was Bryan, I wasn't going to let him in, but then realised that Jess was with him and thought that I was angry at her too, so I opened the door. I ended up going back to the room to talk with Bryan over what had happened. "Sit down." He said, as we walked in, and he disappeared to put Jess back to bed. "Ok." I sat down, nervously. A few minutes later he reappeared and sat down on the floor in front of me. "Is she sleeping?" "Yeah. Thanks for coming back, I guess we need to talk." "I made my feelings clear Bryan, so did you, from what I remember." I replied sarcastically. "It's not that, it just took me by surprise, I thought I was over losing her, maybe - maybe I'm not." He sighed heavily. "I do love you, I think, it's just, I - I don't know, I need time." "Time? How much time? What, do I sit about and wait until you, magically one day, decide that you're over her?" "I just never expected this, so soon. She's been gone less than a year, I've known you only 6 weeks, but I know how I feel." "I don't know if I can go on working for you, with all this out...." I started. "No!" He answered, quickly, "don't leave. I need you here." "Has something happened?" I asked, he seemed so insecure, "is it to do with that Derek guy calling earlier?" He looked unsure, then slowly nodded. "It just threw me, he was, demanding to see Dylan, I just freaked, I lost Ally, I don't want to lose my son too, and then you started talking about leaving too." He stood up and walked to the window. "Hold on, lose Dylan?" I asked, puzzled, how could he lose him? "Umm, I never even thought to tell you, ummm, Derek is Dylan's dad, not me." "But, I thought -" "No, Ally and I got together before he was born, Derek didn't even find out until Dylan was 6 months old. It's not really a secret, but Dylan doesn't know any of this." He explained. "Oh." I said, shocked, I had no idea. "Yeah." He sighed and sat down beside me on the couch. "I can't lose him." "You won't."i said, trying to reassure him. "That kid's going nowhere, ok? YOU are his father, not him." "If only." He sighed. "What about Jess, she is yours?" I was scared to ask, but wanted the full story. He laughed a little, "hmmm, interesting question. There was a chance that she was his too, but look at her, she's mine." He smiled a little. I thought it was best not to ask how Jess could be Derek's, raking up the past was no way to get him to get over her death any quicker. "Does Derek have a girlfriend?" I asked, well, it could be important if there was a custody issue. "No." "Oh." "Why?" "Just asking. Just that if there was a custody thing, well, you having me could go in your favour maybe." I looked at the floor. "Yeah." Just then the phone went. I reached over and answered it. "Hello?" "Is Bryan there?" "Yeah. Is that Derek?" "Yeah." I handed Bryan the phone, he just sighed. "Hi Derek. No, I told you, we wont be back in Dublin until next week, you can see him then. I know, I know, but he's happy here, with me and his sister. Dammit Derek, don't do this to him! Fine, I'll see you next week, we need to get this sorted once and for all, without lawyers, if possible. Yeah, bye!" He slammed the phone down, and buried his head in his hands. "He wants him, Robyn, he wants to take him." He started to sob quietly, so I hugged him. We sat like that for ages, until there was a knock atthe door, without warning, Mark walked in. "Bry, do you have a spare set of batteries for the walkman? Uh, what's going on here?" He asked, looking uneasy, and blushing. "Nothing Mark." I drew him a dirty look for assuming something was going on, Bryan never spoke, just raised his head. "What's happened?" He asked. "Mark, just leave it." I advised him, Bryan was still visibly shaken. "Hey, I've known him 8 years, you've known him 6 weeks! If he's got a problem, he should be coming to us, not you!" He spat. Bryan drew him a look. "If it's like that, I'm going, see you later Bry!" I stood up and gave his a kiss on the cheek, knowing how much it would upset Mark. "Robyn, you're not going anywhere." He stared at Mark, "Mark, if you're going to treat my girlfriend like that, you can just go!" The word girlfriend was out there, without warning, taking both me and Bryan by surprise. We smiled at each, and I sat back down. "Girlfriend?" Mark asked, stunned. I think his jaw hit the floor. "Yeah. So goodbye Mark, if you can be civil tomorrow, then maybe you will find out exactly what happened, but until then, just go." Still stunned, Mark walked out, no doubt heading straight to tell the others. "Ummm, girlfriend?" I asked Bryan, who was now grinning, ear to ear. "Yeah, if you want." "I want." I said, giggling, he leaned in and kissed me. Then I sat and yawned.. "Tired?" I nodded, "come on, time for bed then." "Yeah, I'll see you in the morning." I stood up to leave and go to my room. "Where are you going?" I pointed at the door. "Duh, Robs, we got a bed here too." He laughed a little. "Oh right." I followed him, caught a T-shirt he threw at me, got changed and went into bed. |
