scattered

lately i am the queen of laundry.

while i still adore the smell of dryer sheets, mostly because it reminds me of my grandmother, i am becoming a liquid fabric softener convert. i had forgotten how soft towels can be, and how much longer the snuggly clean smell lasts.

a small break in the action

i'm still going to hell for my continuing non-pc opinions.

case in point: there is a developmentally disabled young man who bags groceries at my neighbourhood store. while i am, in theory, completely supportive of hiring all manner of people for all manner of jobs, in truth, i am completely annoyed with the way this particular person dumps my groceries into bags, putting potatoes on top of the bananas, cans on top of the eggs, and mushing the bread into new and interesting shapes by not so judicious use of the cramming maneuver.

a small break in the action

i am still interviewing with the new company.

it looks like i may pop over there on tuesday and thursday afternoons to begin training and do a little writing for them; clean up a few specs, document a few features, sort of get a feel for what they want by looking at things they have already done and are in the process of doing.

i had to sign a nondisclosure agreement today so i can't tell you any more than that without having to kill you.

a small break in the action

something about autumn sends me to the kitchen.

i have actually cooked full dinners for about a week now. wholesome hearty fare involving some sort of main dish, usually meat based for my boyfriend the carnivore, then an intricate starch--pasta in sauce, or escalloped potatoes, or pilaf--, a vegetable, and even a salad and bread.

the spaetzle maker. it doubles as a creative instrument of torture

this weekend i am going to make a pork shoulder roast in cider with autumn fruits. i have no idea what to make with it, maybe spaetzle. i do so love my little spaetzle maker and the way it drops the little bits of dough into the boiling water.

and as long as i am moving towards a german theme, i may well have to pull out the dr oetker's baking book and look for a good dessert recipe. something with hazelnuts, i think.

a small break in the action

i hate the television advertisements for the hyundai sonata.

god's own warranty plan indeed. i don't even believe in god and i find this offensive.

feeling somewhat more tidy now that i've gotten all those little things out of my brain, claire
