1999 september 02my father as santa claus in summergene and i stash our change in the car. not just the coins, which i drop into the handy dandy little pocket on the driver's side door, but also any ones we end up with at the end of any outing. we use the money for our various roadtrips: drive thru fast food, cokes at the gas station, entrance fees at parks and the like. we usually have about $10 to $20 in there at any given time, but lately the supply has been dwindling: too many summer road trips. i absolutely positively had to had orange juice this morning so i hit the mcdonald's drive thru. imagine my surprise when i grabbed the stack of ones, peeled off two [had to get hashbrowns as well so the orange juice wouldn't feel lonely] and found a brand new crisp $50 bill. it had to be my dad. he is the only person who has driven the car besides me and gene this whole summer. and i somehow doubt either gene or i would have accidentally put $50 in the ashtray. we do not have the kind of budget where $50 can go missing without someone realizing it right away. gene and i have plans to meet up some friends tonight and them go to a concert, so the timing could not be better. we were going to grab a cheap snack somewhere first but now we can have a proper dinner and still have some money left over for incidentals. thanks dad!
question for anyone who knows physics or whatever the appropriate science may be: why is it that coffee reheated in the microwave does not stay hot as long as coffee reheated on the stovetop? taking my baby out on the town, claire
