lost

i spent most of last night, and quite a few of my waking hours this morning, looking for a bloody video tape.

gene and i were having a silly movie moment so we popped over to blockbuster a few days ago and rented starship troopers. there's nothing quite like a good bug movie to satisy a silly movie moment. please note that a good bug movie is not the same as a good movie. in fact a good bug movie had better be pretty bad when compared to other movies.

we want cheesy dialogue! we want characters too beautiful to be real people! we want lots of fake looking blood and some really gruesome crunchy sounds when a bug finally attacks a person! starship troopers met all the requirements. we had a raucous good time yelling at the television screen, and laughing at how stupid the earth forces were and how the pilot chick was always smiling, even when her city was blown up. it was two hours and ten minutes of pure stupid fun.

and i would have always thought fondly of the starship troopers bug movie if i hadn't lost the damn tape. i remembered rewinding it, using the new universal remote. i did not remember putting it back in its case, nor putting it down anywhere. yesterday afternoon, i thought i would be proactive and return it the day before it was due. looked for it, couldn't find it. looked some more, still couldn't find it.

you have to understand that gene and i have a clutter problem. the place is usually clean but there is stuff strewn about just about every available surface. stuff on tables, on desks, on chairs, on the television, on the vcr. i went through all the stacks--no tape. i went through the kitchen, just in case i was carrying it while on an ice water run--no tape. bathroom--no tape. thinking maybe i had been uberproactive, instead of just proactive, i checked the car--no tape.

gene had gone to bed early, so i sent him slightly panicked mail asking if he might have a look for it when he woke up. he woke, he read, he looked--no tape.

finally, this morning, after another couple of hours of me moving wildly through the house throwing things in the air, he found it. it had fallen behind a stack of library books on a small bookcase. thank bloody god. i mean i liked to movie and all, but if i'm going to pay for it, i want to be able to watch it again and again at will.

don't bug me about my housekeeping skills, claire
