waning interest

you might have noticed my entries are coming later and later in the day.

i think it is a lazy hazy summer thing; i don't wake up with the burning desire to put fingers to keyboard. i wake up with the urge to play hooky from work and romp in the sun, and anything short of that has a little trouble capturing my attention. my house is cluttered, the laundry isn't folded, the newspapers haven't been recycled and the entries aren't up in a timely manner.

the one thing other than playing in the sun that has kept my attention this season is reading. i am in the middle of a voracious reading spree. it started when my parents were here and i had to fight with three other people for computer time. i usually lost the war so i spent most evenings with my nose in a book.

i've been absolutely horrid about updating the library list so here, for your literary edification, is a rundown of the books i have read since july:

bastard out of carolina dorothy allison
a song for satawal kenneth brower
the hours michael cunningham
tearing the silence ursula hegi
billy and girl deborah levy
the handmaid of desire john l'heureux
a clash of kings george r r martin
undue influence steve martini
mission child maureen f mchugh
the world i made for her thomas moran
dancing naked in the mind field kari mullis
the blood jaguar michael h payne
other people's dirt louise rafkin
mangrove squeeze laurence shames
cryptonomicon neal stephenson
grand central winter lee stringer
incident at twenty-mile trevanian
reckless driver lisa vice
divine secrets of the ya-ya sisterhood rebecca wells

glad for public lending libraries, but not as glad as my wallet is, claire
