new shoes

my dad and i have been rebonding while he is here.

unlike most men, he likes to go shopping; i mean really likes it. so when my mother sneaks off to take a nap and gene is locked in his office slaving away and peter parker is stretched out like some sort of gummy cat in the sun, dad and i hop in the car and go to shopping malls.

[more later today, tonight, tomorrow, soon....]

[....oh, look! it's later!]

i myself am not so keen on shopping but i like driving around and my dad and i share an affinity for small squirrelly roads. we might spend an hour getting somewhere we could have reached in fifteen minutes, but we are going to discover all manner of strange and wonderful neighbourhoods and gardens and deadends along the way. we've also found some excellent bakeries; nothing better than being on the road, windows open, scarfing an eclair.

anywhohow, dad is in a bit of an obsessive mood and absolutely must find a hunter tweed jacket. i personally have no idea what a hunter tweed looks like but he assures me it isn't something i will be embarrassed to see him in. he knows me well. the last jacket he bought was hideous in shades of mustard and cream, horribly wide lapels, leather buttons, the only things it was missing were the leather patches on the elbows. i hated it and he wore it for years. if he is looking for a replacement in a respectable tweed, you can bet i am going to go along with that.

so we've been cruising malls, and outlet centers and stand alone clothing stores. sadly, no jacket as yet.

i did, however, get a most excellent pair of sandals.

heavy duty, sort of a fawn brown suede with straps that crisscross the tops of my feet. i love them. the ultimate bliss? they are candies -- makers of the most beloved shoes from my life as a teenager. remember those blig clunky slipons with the four inch fake beechwood heels? many a time i nearly broke my neck clomping around in those babies.

i was going to scan the left one for you but i don't want to take them off. maybe i'll even sleep in them. at least that way i know they will be safe from peter parker and his full body bump of death; i swear that cat goes absolutely crazy over my shoes.

we should have named him rupaul.

newly shod and happy to boot, claire
