it amazes me how much i miss.
i drive the same street just about every day of the year and there are still things i see that astound me. i once read an article, maybe in psychology today, that said we really do notice things we see every day. after a while, however, they are so burned into our brains as to become part of the background and are, for the most part, indistinguishable from the sky. after a few weeks of that i suppose your brain is afraid you might be blocking out the nuclear bomb your neighbour is building or something because it sends an alert and refreshes the picture; it's like an f5 for your neural network. the point of this ramble is after those refresh moments occur, that is when you see something and wonder, "huh, why didn't i ever notice that the people across the street have two cows in the front yard." or "why didn't i ever notice that gigantic ridiculously coifed poodle being walked by that extremely short man in the ugy pants before?" i swear, i now see this dog twice a day and i can't recall ever seeing it before last week. maybe they just moved in but i haven't seen any moving vans of late. maybe i blocked them out too. i have dubbed it the ubiquitous poodle. sounds like a sherlock holmes story, doesn't it?
if things go according to plan, you shall soon be able to call me farmeress claire. gene and i stopped at a little farm this weekend and bought some tomato plants. we also bought some onions, some parsley, greek oregano, basil and rosemary. i am going to try and make a little vegetable/herb garden on the back porch. i figure now that i have the geraniums and wallflowers down pat, i should branch out. i am having delusions of italian cookery, homemade with ingredients i have grown. poodles and parsley, claire
