conspiracy

it's a conspiracy, i tell you. my beloved overalls

yesterday the bra, today the favorite overalls. i grabbed them out of the dryer only to discover one of the fasteners had broken. the industrial clasps are welded to the bars that hold them to the straps and the weld on the left one just broke. i was devastated and couldn't see a way to fix it.

after stomping around the condo in a proper snit, i calmed down and looked at it again and figured a way to juryrig it back together. i slid the bar through the clasp then crimped the ends together through the strap. it took a mighty pair pf pliers and much exertion on my part, and it sticks out a bit but at least i can wear them. i live in overalls and only have two pair at the moment. well, two pair that fit. my boss gave me a brand new pair from the gap* for christmas but they are just a little tight at the moment.

give me until valentine's day and they'll fit fine. and that's all i'm going to say about that particular resolution.

**

we have temporary custody of a cat.

one of my coworkers is leaving the country and can't take peter parker with her. i'm not sure gene and i are ready for a cat, and i know daphne the fish isn't, but i am a total sucker so we are giving him a test drive. he is named after the amazing spiderman and more exactly, the mid 1980's spiderman, the one with the black and white suit. surprise! the cat is black and white and climbs everything in sight.

daphne is on a shelf in the bookcase and her tank is covered so i am not too worried about him getting to her. he is tall, but thin, and i don't think he has the weight to actually knock her and the tank off should he find his way up there. there are other things on those shelves i am more worried about. the coworker assured me that peter is very surefooted and not given to knocking things off or over but i am not quite ready to take her at her word. i think i will take down the post ww2 dresden angels and the hummel st george for a while, until i see how well he does with all my knickknacks.

he is such a loving cat. he absolutely must sit in my lap and whenever and wherever i sit down, he is right there to claim his place, snuggling in and purring. this may end up being a little problematic while i am at the computer. no one and no animal, no matter how adorable, gets between me and my computer.

purring in her overalls, claire

* i've never owned anything from the gap before; i've always bought my overalls and jeans at target. i am irrationally intimidated by them, even though i keep telling myself it's just denim, denim is denim.
