with a moo moo here

i've been eating meat.

i know this comes as a shock to most of you; hell, it comes as a shock to most of me too. what makes it even worse is my pursuit of meat is directly tied in with the personal violation of one of my nevers.

you remember the nevers, right? there were four to begin with:

  1. never let someone else cut my hair
  2. never pump my own gas
  3. never drink pepsi
  4. never eat at burger king

number two fell by the wayside once i was divorced and chose to break down and do it myself, rather than pay a permium to someone smelling of motoroil and gasoline to do it for me. number three has moved from a never to a never if i can find the nectar of the gods, otherwise known as coca-cola, anywhere within walking, crawling or driving distance. number one is still a firm never ever; a girl has to draw the line somewhere.

that leaves number four, the evil burger king. i started hating burger king because of their ad campaigns. one summer i was lamblasted at regular intervals by commercials not touting the wonderfulness of their product but rather flinging barbarous insults at their competitors. i have always hated negative campaigning. that, coupled with a bad whopper experience, was enough to make me swear off the mighty bk.

so what lured me back in? two words: rodeo cheeseburger.

i don't get it. i am not particularly fond of barbeque sauce. when we were children, jubilee loved the stuff. she would pour it into little cups and eat it with uncooked spaghetti sticks, toast fingers, her fingers, anything at all; i would avoid it if at all possible. i am also not overly keen on onions, although technically with the rodeo chesseburger what you have are onion rings. i'm not sure why some creative battering should improve the standing of onions in my world, but it does. then there is the beef thing.

before this latest obsession with a fast food product, i hadn't eaten beef in about a decade. there may have been an occasion here and there, but nothing major. you have to remember that it was never a moral issue with me, i just didn't like the stuff and grew to be gradually more and more grossed out by the smell and look of red meat. jubilee telling me that human flesh looked like prime tenderloin just cemented my distaste, or so i thought. never underestimate the lure of the 99¢ rodeo cheeseburger.

yee haw!!!

i am hoping this little food phase of mine ends soon; i have been through the drive-up window of the local burger king entirely too many times to count in the last three months. i am becoming a fast food junkie, the teenagers at the counter know me by name and ask about my fish and my boyfriend, all the spare change i kept in the car has dwindled to nothing, financing my addiction. maybe they're right, maybe this will lead to bigger and badder meat eating, maybe there is a french dip in my future, a t-bone, my god, i may eat pot roast!! somebody find me a twelve step program!!

i still, however, will refuse to eat a whopper. i have my standards.

and a moo moo there, claire
