Ruth Adams Booth
1921 - January 24, 2007

Ruth studied under Glen Aps, in Seattle, where the collagraph technique was developed.  It is a combination of the collage or paste-up and the graphic or printing media.

The Collagraph:
The plates are compressed board and the artist can glue on various materials as well as cutting into the plate.  The image is then inked and printed in a limited edition.  The collagraph becomes whatever the
individual artist brings to it.

BOOTH, Ruth Adams Wednesday, 24 Jan 2007
Mission City Record Mission, BC

Ruth Adams Booth, age 86, died of congestive heart failure at Pleasant View Care Home, Mission, BC, on January 24, 2007.

The youngest of the four daughters of Samuel and Margaret Adams, Ruth was born, raised and educated in Calgary, Alberta. Later in life, Ruth faced the many challenges of raising her three boys while earning both Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Fine Arts from the University of Washington, Seattle.

Ruth married Ernest Booth (Ernie) in Calgary on December 25, 1941 in a joint ceremony with her sister Frances and Clyde (Pat) Patterson. The Booth and Patterson families remained life-long friends and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary together in Mission in 1992.

Ernie’s career in aerospace led Ruth and Ernie to homes in Toronto, New York, California and Washington. As they approached retirement, they decided to return to Canada, settling near Port Moody, BC, in the Village of Belcarra. In 1987 they relocated to Mission.

Though Ruth was trained as a teacher, her spirit was that of an artist, starting with painting classes in Toronto and leading to becoming an accomplished graphic artist. Her collagraph prints are on display throughout the Fraser Valley. Her pieces are treasured by family and friends and they remember her house being devoted to her studio and her beloved Glen Alps printing press.
In addition to art, Ruth loved gardening, reading, watching British mysteries and comedy programs on television, exploring back roads and out of the way places with Ernie, as well as participating in Liberal Party politics. She traveled to Scotland, England, and Malaysia. She was a member of Mission Arts Council and St. Andrew’s United Church. Ruth also spent many years advocating for people with schizophrenia as a member of the Schizophrenia Society of Canada, and board member of New View Society.

Ruth is survived by son David Booth and wife Nancy Wolff of Salem, Oregon; son Kenneth Booth and wife Terri Briant Booth of Everson, Washington; three grandchildren, Kristi Willems and her husband Scott of Marco Island, Florida, Erica Booth of Salem, Oregon, and Emily Booth of Bellingham, Washington; two great-grandchildren, Lauren and Amanda Willems of Marco Island, Florida; brother-in-law Pat Patterson and wife Leona of Mission; many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and caring friends. Ruth was preceeded in death by her husband of 53 years, Ernie; her sisters Jessie, Muriel, and Frances, and second son, Nicholas Klemmer Booth.

A memorial service was held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007, at St Andrew’s United Church, 7756 Grand St., Mission, BC.

In lieu of flowers, family requests - memorial gifts be made to:
