Summer Reading and Practice Activities 2005-2006 Language and Math Workbooks: -Summer Bridge Activities Grade 1-2: Publisher: Rainbow Bridge Publishing (Paula's Teacher Supply Center, Education 2000, Barnes and Noble, and Books-A-Million) -Be able to recognize vocabulary words (see vocabulary list below) -Wal-Mart and Sam's Club have practice workbooks for children -Workbooks should be at least second grade level -Math addition and subtraction flashcards for drill practice
Reading lists: -Students should read books on their level and below for thirty (30) minutes per day -On grade level books are good practice to extend their vocabulary -Below level books help improve fluency and comprehension skills -Students need to be read to on a higher level, this will also increase their vocabulary -Ask questions about the story throughout the reading to help build comprehension skills -A list of books for each grade level can be acquired from the local public library or bookstore
