Through the research of James G Genco, the great great grandson of Harold J. Bartlett, a soldier in Battery D of 1st Michigan Light Artillery, we have detailed information on the travels of this unit. Most of the information is presented in the form of letters that were written to Harold Bartlett's wife, Rose, from the various locations throughout the South.

Battery D participates in Chickamauga, GA battle

Battery D participates in Chattanooga, TN battle

September 17, 1864

Harold J. Bartlett leaves Army after 3 years of service

August 3, 1865

Battery D disbanded at Jackson, MI

 

Overall 314 men were enrolled, with 37 deaths ( 1 Killed in action, 1 died of wounds, and 35 died of disease), and

53 honorably discharged due to wounds and disease.
