Emerson Theater: Finch, Vendetta Red, ReeveOliver, Nurses. last summer ended with a Finch concert. this summer started with a Finch concert. they were supposed to play April 22 at the Emerson but Nate got laryngitis and indy was supposed to be their first show after he took a week off to recover but they decided to cancel indy too and it was rescheduled for May 23 when they were back in the area and had a day off luckily. renee found out about the tour before me because for some reason i didn't get the email. so we decided not to tell a single soul about this concert because we knew it would sell out and we are very selfish people haha. it turns out the concert did sell out but we already had our tickets. since it was rescheduled for a monday, we left right after renee got out of school and then we had to stop at the new mall in carmel to get these shoes for my shopaholic mother who just had to have them even though they aren't cool at all. so even though i know where this mall is, my mother decides to give me these mapquest directions that take us all the way through noblesville. she said it would be shorter. it took 40 fucking minutes i swear and my way would have taken at most 20. but we got her damn shoes so she better be fucking happy. so then we got food because i was starving because i hadn't eaten all day and after that we changed in the parking lot and it took forever to figure out an outfit to wear and like 50 people went through the drive thru and they were probably like wtf is going on? i wore my take sides shirt that i made all wicked awesome. by the time we were done with all that, it was 6:53pm and the show started at 7 and we were half hour away from the emerson. so i knew we were going to miss the first band. i thought there was only going to be 3 bands but i forgot that there was also a "special guest" opener so there was actually four bands. so i thought we were going to miss the first band (who was actually the second band) and get there just in time for vendetta red who neither of us like. so i was like well we might as well screw around because i don't want to sit through vendetta red. so we stopped at kroger because renee had to pee and then we did the blood pressure test thing and i decided that would be wicked if you were high and did that because it gets all tingly hahaha. then we went to the emerson finally but renee was like well let's not go inside because she had bronchitis and all the smoke inside would have been killer. so we sat outside during what i thought was the end of the band before vendetta red but it was actually the end of the opener band nurses. then the second band started playing and we thought it was vendetta red second but all the vendetta red guys were outside during this so eventually we figured out at this point that there was four bands. nurses, reeve oliver, vendetta red, finch. so we continued to sit outside and then this guy comes around the corner and i just happen to look him right in the face as he lets out this distinguishable laugh. fuckin r2k. oh god. so he was just chilling outside with the vendetta red guys as me and renee were the only 2 people outside at this point and he starts telling this stupid story about one of the bands at another venue. i guess they got a ticket for some stupid violation and they were late but their bassist got there and found out that no one was there yet and the bassist was like "well i'll be damned if i'm the only member here tonight!" and he takes his bass and chucks it on the ground. and after telling us this story, randy lets out one of his damn laughs it was hilarious. so the story isn't that great it's just the fact of sitting there and listening to randy tell it. then randy went to play inside and we stayed out there until that band was over but then it was getting dark so we decided we had to go inside and watch vendetta red because emerson is on 10th street, or as jessie calls it, "the ghetto" because the emerson literally is the only place in at least a 5 mile stretch of 10th street where you will find white people. so when vendetta red comes onstage i finally figured out that 2 of the guys who were talking to us outside and offered to put us on the list because they thought maybe we didn't have tickets, yeah those were the guitarists for vendetta red so it's a good thing i didn't tell them we were sitting out there because we didn't want to watch vendetta red. the singer from VR talked to us too and he was going to put us on the list but i knew he was the VR singer when he was talking to us. but wasn't that really nice of all of them to offer to put us on the list? i thought it was. anyway, so we watched vendetta red but i didn't like it. their guitarists were fun to watch but i don't like their music and i couldn't understand a damn word of their lyrics. then we sat on the ground waiting for finch to start. finally finch comes out and i was super ecstatic because nate  cut his hair and it wasn't all gross like in their promo pictures. so he looked extremely hot and i love him. and randy's hair was good too. and i love him too. they played about 7 old songs and 4 new ones. bitemarks and bloodstains, brother bleed brother, awake, grey matter, without you here, ender, what it is to burn. oh and i love marc the drummer because he talks to the audience between songs and i think that is soo awesome because i don't think nate likes to do that, i think he just likes to go onstage and sing the songs so now randy and marc have little conversations and it's awesome. the crowd was getting a little crazy and there were a lot of surfers going onstage and when they would go up there randy would push them out of his way and one time there was like 4 people coming at him at the same time so he just stops playing his guitar and plays bouncer for a second. i think that was one of the best things i have ever seen. but here's the best part... after that, randy told everyone to take a step back and then he was like wait you're gonna have to take 2 steps back. so everyone takes 2 steps back and then he says "ok does everyone have their own separate space? everyone needs their own separate space." and then... he goes "ok everyone sit down. seriously everyone sit down on the ground and you're not allowed to move or get up for this next song." and everyone in that fucking place sits down on the fucking ground. everyone. a sold out concert and everyone sits down on the ground in the middle of a fucking concert. nate was like wow we've never done that before. he was just dying that randy even said that, let alone that everyone in that place sat their asses on the ground. then they start the next song. and it is 100x crazier than project mayhem. so for like 5 seconds everyone in that place is sitting there just watching nate and randy and the rest of those boys go absolutely insane onstage. then everyone is on their feet going insane along with them. i have never witnessed such a spectacle. that song was soo fucking crazy. randy gave us an "incomplete, an F-" for getting up haha. then they did the "Stars" cover that they did on Jimmy Kimmel Live before. it is one amazing song. "she's outside counting stars." god i love that song. then they played ender and then went straight into what it is to burn. before they played those last two, randy gave a whole spiel about how they play songs that mean a lot to them because if they didn't then they would just be sellouts but he didn't use the term sellouts but that is why i absolutely love that band. they love their music. and they don't play songs just because people tell them that they have to play them. they didn't even play letters to you. and  i'm sure they love that song but they chose to play others. when they started what it is to burn i wanted to do our hand flick thing so that randy would see it and start doing it too but i forgot that they just go straight from ender into that song so the hand flick part isn't there. oh well. i'll tell him about it some other time. i love those boys.  and so the summer begins...
