Apothem
This is a simple calculator that will compute the apothem, perimeter, and area of a polygon inscribed in a circle when given the input values for the length of the radius of the circle, r, and the number of sides of the polygon, n. The output displayed by the calculator (in order) will be:
The length of the apothem of the inscribed polygon
The perimeter of the inscribed polygon
The area of the inscribed polygon
To use the function, keep the radius, r, a constant value, such as 6, 8, 9, etc. Input the values n= 3, 4, 5, and 6, for the number of sides of an inscribed polygon with n sides. Record in a spreadsheet the values of n, r, apothem, perimeter, and area . Use the spreadsheet to derive a formula for calculating the apothem.
