1/16/07- In the morning let female go. Male building nest under Indian Almond leaf and female ignoring his advances so added black water extract. No spawning activity before bed so female placed in lantern for the night and light turned off.
1/17/07- Female let go in the morning. She tried being the boss and after the male got sick of being chased he turned on her and nipped her fins a couple times. Left them alone. After lunch went to check on them and noticed they were both under the nest. After closer inspection, there they were, EGGS!!! Then a few seconds later and there they were embracing. Both parents picking up eggs after each embrace and placing them in the nest. Spawning over by 3:30pm. Female had a couple small nips out of fins and looked VERY thin. She was jarred and fed. She was very active and ate well.
1/19/07- Fry are keeping dad busy and more seem to have hatched in the morning. Doesn't look like a very BIG spawn, but decent sized.
1/20/07- Some are free swimming today. Some are still bobbing so daddy is still in the tank with them today. Everything looking good so far.
2/22/07- They are growing very slowly. They are eating frozen bbs and decapsulated bbs eggs. I will be getting a new batch of hatching bbs eggs since mine appears to be shot. I tried hatching three times now with maybe one or two eggs out of the batch hatching. Still have maybe 40 fry so doing good still.
5/21/07- Spawn mostly terminated. Have a few that I am growing out to see what happens, but most had no ventrals and weren't growing well. Think my microworms had something to do with it so next time I do this spawn no microworms will be used.
