dusting

        a snow dusting today speckles the deck
        mingles with sunflower seeds and catprints
        crisp flakes as white as the cold sky
        find the last oak leaves
        floating in the lawn

        last night a six-point buck
        staring from the roadside
        walked with a determination
        counting the remaining days
        surviving the hunt
