The Ten Minute Life Story

Let' start at the beginning.  I was born in September of 1972 in Houston, Texas.  I spent most of my life in Texas, three years in California, and now I'm living in Brazil.

Tribute to Friends and Memories:

Now for a little tribute to past places and friends (the really special ones).  If you see your name here and haven't heard from me in a long time, drop me a line!

I first attended grammar school in Houston at Garfield and Moore Elementary schools.  People I still remember fondly from this period include Eric Hasslefeld and Scott Hulin (ok, so my memory isn't so good from those days).  Some good memories from that time include kites (I was a champion kiter in those days), "Roses", Commodore 64 and D&D.

After that, I moved on to Miller Intermediate, where I spent a lot of time with Tony Huston, Pete Osborn, Dan Osborn, and Chris Day.  I spent a lot of time getting into and out of trouble those days, but I also spent a lot of time reading and learning different things.  I spent one year at Parkview with Rob McClay, John Bilbo.  That was also the year I threw my first party, still famous in some circles...

Then came high school.  Ah the memories!  I'll try and write up some greatest moments some other time (Padre Island, Negative Image, New Braunfels, Texaco Challenge), but it might take a while.  Besides the names I've already mentioned, there was David Riggs, Mike Vega, Scott Perkins, Jason Council, Zac Twining, Mark Brooks, Angela Brizendine, and the list goes on!  Forgive me if I forgot your name here, there were so many...  This was also the era of my first serious girlfriend, Kathy Ketchum, and my first love, Melissa White.  Melissa and I dated for two and a half years, well into college.  She even inspired me to write poetry.

College.  Rice University.  Sweeeet.  Without a doubt, the best time of my life.  So many memories.  Tequila night, John and the fish, Tom and Eddie.  To my friends, Rob Dickinson, Tom Wardle, Ben Mull, Ben Walrath, Stefanie and John, Woody (can't forget him), Tom Hudgins, Brenna Copeland, Tricia Waldrum, Stormy Peters, Charles Swanson, and so many more.  I'll never forget you!  I also dated my third serious girlfriend, Kristi McKinney.

During this time I also spent a short stint in Austin where I made some really good friends.  Brucek Khailany, Jason Jacobs, Peter Farragut, Brad Burres, Teresa Williams, Paige Reynolds.  I have seen all of them many times since.

At Rice I also met my two best friends ever (along with my mother), Joe Saunders and Hermann Gartler.  The three of us have had our share of adventures together, and many more to come!

Post Rice I moved out to Sacramento, CA (a place so bad I swore I'd never return - and haven' yet).  I had a lot of good friends there as well, William J Wong, Jason Bestimt, Russ Jackson, Mike Finkel, Mehmet Adalier, Mike Stoner,
Ryan King, Hillary Klempner, Tin-Yau Fung, Chris Egan, Bryan Marquardt ("Mac"), Felix Lung.  So many people came and left so quickly during that time, but we all made the most of it.  Zoe Chambers was my only girlfriend during this period.

Vamos ver quem passa a "prova do tempo".

After Intel, I moved along to Southlogic Studios, a Brazilian company.  For business and Visa reasons, I had to make a rather long (year and a half) pit stop in Austin, Texas.  I stayed there with my best friend and patron, Joe Saunders.  We had a full house, with Joe' sister Katherine, the canines Jackson and Marley, a cat named Diesel, and a ferret named Tubby.  It was a great time, we were just like one big family.

During that time Russ, Zac, and Teresa all reappeared in my life in Austin.  Just like in California, Russ and I did a lot of hikes together, the Texas Hill Country has a lot of great places to spend time outdoors.  I also became close to Meredith Clement.

I guess I should mention something about my career.  It all began in high school, when I worked in a lot of crappy jobs.  I worked for a lawn service, two telemarketing firms, a car wash, a grocery store, and an arcade.  I'm only saying this because I swore at the time I would never have a crappy, low paying job again.  Thanks to my education, I've worked at Intel, AMD, IBM, as well as done some contracting on my own.

Right now I'm working in my favorite job ever.  I'm part owner of a small software company in Brazil called Southlogic Studios.  In December 2001 we signed our first big deal with Infogrames, Inc. to produce Trophy Hunter 2003, and I was the lead designer of that project.

The project was a lot of fun and we wrapped it up in August 2002, on time and on budget.  It sold all over the US and Canada in Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Electronics Boutique, Kmart, etc.

In 2002 I also met Fernanda Gusmo de Lima.  On the last day of 2002, during our vacation on the island of Florianopolis, I asked her hand in marriage.  We married in early 2004.

For a last few factoids, my hobbies are outdoor activities (backpacking, hiking, rafting, etc.), cooking (foods from all over the world), dancing (club, salsa, swing), reading, fencing, and spending time with friends.  Besides lots of books, I read Veja, Time and Popular Science to keep informed.
