Although the reverse transcriptase inhibitors block HIV from further infecting the cell, because there is pro virus, the cell will continue to produce virus. The pro virus is not affected by reverse transcriptase inhibitors. Because of phosphorylation by CK2 there is substantial risk of viral resistance to the reverse transcriptase inhibitors which increases over time.
