Port and De-screen MAF Explanation

These are extremely common mods for any performance enthusiast with a mass air flow metered engine. The MAF screen reduces air flow. So what are we gonna do about that? Take it out! Mine popped right out with a screwdriver. Simple. Now for the porting part. The LS1 MAFs aren't a straight through design. There is a support brace on each MAF end thus once again restricting air flow. I don't know why they are even there. They only hinder performance. No problem. Remove the MAF sensor from the MAF ends and go grab the good 'ol hacksaw. Cut the braces out of each MAF end and file them down. (Note: This may take a while) After I did mine I went over the inside of the MAF halves with a fine file and fine grit sand paper. Nice and smooth!! The MAF sensor itself also has two small support braces. Takes 2 minutes with the hacksaw to take care of those since they're plastic. Add a couple of ponies for free!
