It was 2 weeks before Christmas and Kaci was finally out for winter break. She was just walking in the door when the phone rang.
�Hello?� she answered.
�Hey Beautiful, how are ya?�
�Hey G, whats up?� she smiled into the phone. In the past 8 months, she and Gene had become best friends. They called each other all the time now, but still kept in touch online. The difference in ages didn�t seem to phase them one bit. They just had so much in common, and it was so easy to talk to one other. Little did Kaci know, she had befriended the one and only Nickolas GENE Carter. He had tried a number of times to tell her but just couldn�t do it. He didn�t know how she would react. He knew she listend to pop music but she didn�t seem like a huge fan. He just needed the right moment.
�Nothin, you finally on break?� he asked.
�Yes! I�m so happy, finally relaxation.�
�Tell me about it, three whole weeks for me,� he said.
�Yeah me too. What are you doin for Christmas?� she asked.
�Um�probably just staying here in Florida. I have some stuff I gotta get done at home here,� he replied.
�Cool, I think my Dad might actually be home this year,� she said plopping down on the couch.
�That�s great,� he said. Kaci�s mom had died when she was five years old and her Dad was a workaholic. Her Christmas�s were never very great, considering her Dad missed a lot of them.
�Yeah�� she sighed.
�Hey Kace, I been thinking,� he began.
�Uh oh, somebody call the papers, G�s thinking.�
�Ha, ha, shut up. I�m serious, aight� when we gonna meet?� he asked. She was startled. She hadn�t really thought about that.
�Um�I don�t know�I hadn�t thought of that yet. Did you want to meet soon?�
�Well, we do both have three weeks off right now�what do you think?�
�How would we meet? I don�t know if my Dad would let me go to Florida. Plus, he�s gonna actually be home for Christmas this year, I don�t want to leave him,� she said. Nick smiled on the other end of the phone. He�d figured out that Kaci�s dad, Dave, was working in the legal office at Jive. He knew the names were the same and when Kaci sent him a picture of the two of them together, he was psyched. He�d talked to Dave about meeting her over the winter break and together they�d cooked up a little scam.
�Yeah�you�re probably right. I don�t know, it was just an idea, we�ll wait,� he said. They talked for another hour when they finally decided both of them needed to go. As soon as she hung up, Dave walked in the door.
�Hey Daddy,� she said switching on the TV.
�Hey honey, um we need to talk about something,� he said going to sit by her.
�What�s that?� she asked.
�Well, it turns out, I�m going to have to be in Florida over Christmas.�
�What?! No! Daddy, you promised!� She started to get upset.
�Wait, wait, honey, theres more. As part of your Christmas present, you�re coming with me.� Her frown faded.
�Really?� she asked.
�Yes babe, Christmas in Florida.� She smiled and jumped on him.
�Ah! Thank you, thank you, thank you! When do we leave?!� She screamed.
He laughed, �Tomorrow. We�re going to Tampa.� She screamed again.
�I gotta make a phone call!� She ran upstairs and quickly dialed a familiar number.
�Talk to me,� he answered.
�I�m coming to Tampa tomorrow!!!� Kaci screamed. Nick smiled and acted surprised.
�Seriously?�
�Yes!! My dad has to be down there for work and he said I get to come with him!� She was literally jumping on her bed she was so happy.
�This is great!� Nick exclaimed.
�Gene, we finally get to meet!� She said happily.
�I know babe, it�s great. So okay, when you get here, call me and we�ll work out the details,� he said. He and Dave had already worked out the details but he had to play along.
�Okay, I better go pack, I�ll talk�I mean SEE you tomorrow,� she grinned. He laughed,
�See ya tomorrow babe, love you.�
�Love ya too, bye G.� He almost laughed out loud but waited until he hung up. She�d called him G for a while now. What would she do when she found out he was Nick?
