Berlin, Germany
HOME
Greg and I took a side trip from Rome to visit a friend of his, Heather, in Berlin.  We saw everything to see there, well almost everything.  Berlin was a very nice city, very calm, and relaxing too.  They were also very open about their history- they don't hide it- which was very interesting to see.
Greg and I in front of the Brandenberg Gate.
Humboldt University in East Berlin, sight of one of the many Hitler regime book burnings and other fascist events/demonstrations.
The Berlin Cathedral in East Berlin, now a Lutheran Cathedral.
View from on top of the Cathedral.
The Berlin Rathaus (Town hall).
A newer Catholic Church in East Berlin.  Through the glass square on the ground is a monument of the burning of religious books that took place on this spot during the Hitler years.
A remaining section of the REAL Berlin wall.
The Reichstag Parliament building in West Berlin.
The huge, ugly, lookout tower in East Berlin.  Interesting story...it was built by the Communists as a sort of "look at what we can do kind of thing."  After building it, they realized that the sun reflects off it in the shape of a cross.  Can you see the cross in the picture?  Shows the communists.
Checkpoint Charlie- one of the only entrances/exits from East to West Berlin.
