I do not personally identify with any particular political party. When I vote every year it is for the individual, not the party that they associate with.  I do not follow the lesser of two evils mindset.  If everyone would just vote for the person they felt would do the best job, I think there would be a major change in the political climate of this country... Politicians might actually need to keep their promises.

I think there would be another  major change if people would realize that the people we elect are not our leaders... they are our representatives.  Their job is to represent us, not tell us what to do... that's why we aren't a colony of England anymore.  It would be nice if the people elected would remember that... it would be even nicer if the voters remembered that too.
My spirtual beliefs are very nature centered... so I'm sure it is no surprise that my politics tend to be environmentally centered as well. I find my environmental voice through being a member of the  Nature Conservancy. If more people would realize that they are part of nature, not superior to it, we might come to peace with nature and with ourselves.

I have made the
Care2 site a daily stop.  It's such a small thing to click on each link each day, but the cumulative effect makes a big difference.  There is now the new feature of care2connect.. a way to meet people in your area who share similar opinions and beliefs.  Find me here.
Then we have  the "war" on drugs.  Many people realize that this "war"  is a sham designed keep the profit margin high for the producers who have the policy makers in their back pocket.   One very insightful book is Refer Madness, that really goes into explaining the underground economy.  The government  justifies this under the guise of  "saving us from ourselves", but if the government is so concerned about our health, why are we permitted to drink alcohol, or  smoke tobacco,  or eat at McDonalds? Just think about all the dangerous things that ARE legal and you'll go DUH!!! All of the criminal activity that they cite are not the result of drug use, but the result of prohibition... just look at the history books... The prohibition on alcohol didn't work either.

Many people who are against legalization argue that anyone who is for legalization is against any controls at all.. they show accident dummies lighting a joint before an accident.. they show kids getting high and playing with a loaded gun.  All the laws currently in place for alcohol  (age limits, driving under the influence, public intoxication) are quite sufficient.  I don't want kids smoking pot and I don't want people out driving when they are high, but you know what?  Legal or not it is happening, and truthfully, it is easier for kids to get pot than alcohol.  Maybe if it was treated like alcohol there might be some control!  I support  the
Marijuana Policy Project for their work in de-criminalizing medical marijuana for medical uses, but I also believe that when it comes to recreational use, it should be up to the individual to choose what is right for them.

I also believe that the use of Industrial Hemp is better, for both economic and environmental reasons.   This marvelous plant is a gift. It is a single plant that has so many uses.  Animal feed, lubricating oils, fiber for cloth, rope and paper.  It has a fast growing season, it doesn't require all the fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides that other types of plants do, in fact it's one of the few plants that actually returns nitrogen to the soil... which is where the invironment comes in.  During WWII farmers were REQUIRED to grow hemp for the military.  It is still useful.  And the thing to remember is that the hemp that is used for industrial purposes does not contain enough of THC to get you high.  If you smoke it, you will only get a headache due to smoke inhilation and lack of oxygen.  I could go on and on, but I'd rather direct you to  find out for yourself.  Visit my list of
hemp links.
Personally I do not believe in abortion.  I made the choice to NOT have an abortion when I was 16 despite the pressure I was receiving from my mother the subsequntly invisible father of my daughter.   I fought for my right to choose, and I made the choice that was right for me. I support the right of everyone to make their own choice when faced with this life altering moral decision.

I view abortion as a symptom, and the only cure is prevention through education and accessibility to effective birth control.  The current idea that the schools need to teach an abstinence only form of sexual education is ridiculous.  Are they trying to claim that before we started talking about condoms and birthcontrol, teenagers weren't having sex?  My mother had me when she was 16.. she was told "don't do it", it didn't work. I had my daughter at 16... being raised by my grandparents I was told the same thing, and surprise!  It didn't work.  My daughters are 22 and 15.  I have told them "you should wait, but if you chose not to wait, you need to protect yourself, because if all you get is pregnant, I'll be grateful ."  I'm not a grandmother yet.
Emergency contraception is something that everyone should educate themselves about.  It is much safer than a vacuum evacuation, or D & C procedure.  Less risk of infection, and  works by causing a woman to begin menstration which eliminates the tissue necessary to the creation of a placenta.  Yes, it's a grey area... It's called a compromise, and life is full of them.

I support
NARAL mainly because their prime focus is on keeping abortion safe and affordable for those who need it the most.  They work to ensure that if an unplanned pregnancy does occur, women will continue to have access to a medically sound procedure that won't risk ending their lives as well.  I worry about the new 24 hour waiting period.  While it seems like a really good idea on the surface (I believe  they SHOULD think about it before they have it done), there are some major flaws.   I disagree with parental notification as well.  Yes, I'd want to know if my daughter is pregnant and seeking an abortion, but I also would also want her and I to have the type of relationship where she would come to on her own instead of telling me because she is compelled by law to do so.
I support the troops ... I just don't believe it was right to start the war with Iraq.  While I believe that ther are things in this world worth dying for, but nothing will ever convince me that that anything is worth killing for.

I support the efforts of
Women Against Military MadnessMoveOn.ORG and all other organizations that believe that war and violence have no place in a peaceful society.
I also strongly believe in personal freedom.  I'm a  member of the ALCU, the Human Rights Campaign, and  the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom. I think it is absurd that there needs to be so many separate groups when it's all about one thing... the freedom to be who we are.  I'm not going to make straight people pretend to be bi or gay, so why do so many straight people want me to pretend to be straight?  It just doesn't makes sense.

Most oponents of Gay marriage claim that it's giving special rights to gay or that it somehow takes away something from the meaning of marriage.  I don't understand either of those position... Right now it's the hetrosexual marriages that are receiving the special rights.  And  if marriage meant being with the person you love despite everything, wouldn't that actually strengthen marriage?

Then you have the religious zealots who base their objections on the fact that there are a few passages in Bible that imply that  homosexuality is wrong.  Your religion says it's a sin, so everyone in the world has to believe the same thing?  Plural marriage, slavery and genocide are mentioned in the Bible (with great pride even), does that mean we should practice it?  You can't pick and choose what parts of the Bible to follow and expect anyone to take you seriously folks.  It only shows how desperate you are.
