�Kat are you OK,� Derek said coming into her room as she sat up and smiled he was always there when she need him.
�It was a dream,� Kat said trying to comfort her self.
�Kat you know that people with the sight don�t just have dreams�so tell me what you saw,� Derek said getting in his protective mode.
�Well at first it seemed like a party, everyone was there. Alex, Nick, you, my Dad�s family and my mom�s, but my mom wasn�t there. I was sitting with Nick and Alex but weren�t talking to anyone, and you were talking to my dad�s mom, then it changed. I saw my mom�a spirit had taken her soul and than I saw the funeral, the party I saw was everyone at the funeral, but it was my mom�s�than I woke up,� Kat said and he took a deep breath he knew what she felt like he too saw his dad�s death.
�I�ll tell Rachel what you saw and tell her to be extra careful�now get some sleep, your summer vacation starts tomorrow and Alex and Rachel are going to pick up Philip at the airport,� Derek said and she smiled.
Philip had called and said he something he wanted to tell everyone at the legacy house and was coming in town to tell us in person. He may not be an official member of the team, but he was still their team member. Nick and Kat were eating and Nick was trying to get Derek to let him have the day off so he Kat could see a movie.
�No, you can wait one day Nick,� Derek said.
�Come on Derek, half a day, I�ve worked for 2 weeks straight and need a little time off,� Nick said.
�Go on Derek, he�ll be with Kat,� Philip said as he walk in.
Kat and Nick looked up at the sound of the Irish priest voice because they knew Nick would get his way. Derek smiled to see his old friend after so long. Rachel and Alex were standing a little behind him and waiting for Derek to say something.
�You know Derek, speaking as a doctor with a PH.D in psychology I would say a day off for everyone would be recommended,� Rachel said as Alex smiled.
Derek had been set up and he knew it and what could he do but give in. As Derek looked at Kat and he noticed her zone out look and agreed hoping this would help her. Everyone cheered even Derek was a little happy he�d agreed. Rachel and Alex had gone into the other room to get some stuff. Kat�s head jerked up and the vision hit her like a bomb and before anyone knew what happen she yelled no.
�Kat was is it what wrong,� Nick asked worried.
�My dream,� Kat said getting really upset.
Wait a minute Kat what dream�when did you have this dream,� Nick asked but before she could answer they heard a crash and Rachel scream.
Derek and Philip were the first ones to leave and Kat stood up and nick took her hand. Nick and Kat ran in there but it was too late, Rachel lied on the floor-- motionless.
�Call the doctor now,� Philip said.
Alex ran to the phone as fast as she could and called the doctor trying to stay as calm as she could. Derek and Philip did what Alex told them to do until the doctor came as soon as he could. Nick had his arms wrapped around Kat who was still in shock that her vision came through.
�I�m sorry, Dr. Corrigan died of a heart attack�I know Dr. Corrigan been under a lot of stress and told her myself to take it easy before she gets hurt,� The Doctor said.
The doctor had the body taken to town and Nick and taken Kat up stair hoping she would be OK. Philip had agreed to arrange all things for the funeral and Derek knew there would be two of them. One the legacy had, and one was for the family it self. Rachel body would be berried on Angel Island, mostly to dislike of her family. But it was tradition to have team member buried on near the house.
�How�s Kat,� Philip asked fighting the need to cry.
�She fine I think. She hasn�t cried yet, but she still in shock from seeing her mom died in a vision�and then real life,�
Nick said he to trying not to cry.
Philip had left to go and find Derek and Nick just sank in the chair thinking of everything that had happen since Rachel and Kat joined the legacy. Alex walk in and they noticed she�d been crying but the redness of her eyes. She was still shaking and Nick almost cried but kept his strong posture for her and Kat�s sake.
�I think Derek or Philip should go and talk to her she�s a little confused right now,� Alex said.
I�ll go get them,� Nick said.
�I was wondering�what will happen to Kat�who will raise her.� Alex said.
Nick looked at her and knew he had to say something for that was the question everyone was asking. Nick knew that Derek would have an answer and he too was wondering what will happen to Kat. If she lived with her Dad�s family they couldn�t help her as the legacy could.
I think we should go ask Derek,� Nick said.
�Ok,� Alex said as they left to go find him.
Derek we think you or Philip should go and talk to her,� Nick said.
�I will,� Derek said and Philip nodded.
�Derek we were wondering what will happen to Kat now,� Alex asked and he thought for a moment.
�First lets get through the funeral, and putting up with Kat�s family, then worry about who gets Kat, because if I Know Rachel it already taken care of,� Derek said walking towards Kat�s room.
Derek right let�s take care one thing at a time,� Philip said leaving towards his room.
Derek walked a little slower then he usually did when he wanted to talk to Kat, this time was unlike any other time when he wanted to talk to her. The door was shut and he could tell the light was off so she was probably trying to get some sleep. He went for the door and took a deep breath before actually going in.
�Kat, its me Derek can I come in,� Derek asked opening the door slightly.
�Yes,� Kat mumbled as she sat up and it had shown that she had not cried yet, and Derek understood.
�Kat, I know what you are going through I was about your age when my father died and I didn�t cry either at first, but you will give it some time,� Derek said as he gave her hug.
Kat looked at him and smiled, she knew he was right but she was still in major shock of her mother�s death. She get held on to him tighter not ready to cry but still needing someone there because now she had her dad, her mom, and her brother. She knew that Derek did understand but she feared it would worse before it got better.
�Nick how are you doing,� Philip asked as Nick looked at him still trying not to cry.
�I can�t believe she dead�just a few hours ago we all were talking and she was �alive. I miss her already, what if Kat has to leave us forever, what if�� Nick said.
�Nick it will all work out you�ll see, in two days we will have a legacy funeral, than the next her family will came, to the dismay of her family she will be berried on Angel Island, and Kat will go to who ever was appointed her guardian. Which I believe is her grandmother, but we�ll have to wait and see,� Philip said making the situation seem better than it was.
That night no one slept Kat just tossed and turned seeing it happen over and over every time she started to fall asleep. Alex and Nick finally cried in their rooms after looking at pictures and stuff Rachel had given them and they only hoped that Kat didn�t hear them. Philip was still making arrangements with Rachel�s Family, and Derek was watching Kat who was trying sleeping.
�Derek let me talk to Kat, you go and get something to eat,� Philip said wanting to talk to Kat without Derek around.
�Fine tell me if you need me,� Derek asked and Philip nodded as he left.
�Kat, you are the first person I�m going to tell this too, so listen OK. As you know I came back here for some unknown reason�well the legacy feels that I am needed, so I�ll be in legacy once again,� Philip explained.
�I thought once you left you couldn�t come back,� Kat said not understanding why he told her.
�That true, but sometimes they make�exceptions and they need me now, but I swore not to leave, and it�s because of you, today you showed me that I can help more people by being with the legacy, and as I see it they need my help,� Philip said.
Because you�ll stop things like what happen to my mom.� Kat said.
Yes�now I want you to go to sleep and when you wake up we�ll tell everyone why I really came,� Philip said giving her kiss on the head.
�Philip, you guys are still my family, right,� she asked innocently.
�Of course, no matter what�we are your family�for life, Philip said, she smiled and closed her eyes.
The next day, they told everyone about the deal he made with the legacy. If it had been any other time they would have been happy, but of course it was not. Kat knew that this was a summer she would never forget. When people asked her, what is the summer you remember the most she going to say the summer when I was 12, because my mother died, but she knew it was far from over. She still had two funerals, the reading of the will, going an living with who ever the court chooses, then the most hardest, moving on with her life. Alex was at the same loss, she has had two best friends Rachel and Julia both died while couldn�t she why did the people she cared about have to. This time it was different she saw her die, she witness the evil spirit taking Rachel�s life but couldn�t do anything, and then there was Kat, she swore to herself that no matter what she would protect her no matter what. Derek and Philip were the strong ones on the outside in the inside they were crying out like a child. Nick would not leave Kat side, and he had cried only when no one was around. He knew this pain of loss, but had hoped not to experience again for a while. That�s what kept him from loving someone truly, the fear of losing them and feeling this pain.
The next day was the legacy funeral, that when they do a ceremony for only legacy members, but Derek had got the ok to let Kat attend since she knew about the legacy, but wasn�t a member. This was the only time they could talk about her work in the legacy in their speeches for her.
The day was cloudy and there was a light rain, but that didn�t hurt them any the day was like their mood. Kat stood in front of Derek, while Philip stood next to him. Nick was next to Philip while Alex stood next to Nick. Nick had taken Alex hand, since they both were fight back tears. They let a few escape, knowing they would cry tomorrow also. For almost 10 minutes no one said anything, no one moved, they stood there, all remembering Rachel. How she had changed the legacy, how she was a part of all of them now and forever.
�I will be giving my real speech tomorrow at the other funeral, but I just want to say that Rachel was a great member of this house. She looked at everything in different angles, she tried to have things explained by science but in the end she knew they were not. She was one of the best members you could have on your team, so I hope she is with her husband and son now,� Derek said as he too shed a few tears.
They all knew that tomorrow would be a day for them to speak, but they also knew that Derek had mainly said it all. Kat was a little scared, because if her family found out about her gifts, they would say she was crazy or have her put in a hospital. So she hoped that tomorrow would come and go fast. Then a light rain started to become a little harder, and they all still stood there, because know was the only time they had to morn. Derek took Kat�s hand and Kat took Philip�s they were the first to leave, Nick and Alex stood there for a few moments, they still held hand as they started to go also.
�Alex, I lost a lot of people in my life, Julia, My dad, my brother, and now Rachel�but I refuse to lose Kat,� Nick said.
�I know me to, I don�t care what it takes, we will keep her in this family, Alex said they finished their walk to there home.
They knew that this promise wasn�t going to be easy to keep they knew her family would do anything to keep her. They knew Kat like they knew everything and she wanted to stay but right now they were being tested someone was testing there strength and love as a family. But the real test for them as a family came tomorrow, when they faced Kat�s family.
