THE DRAFT

In past years, the Draft was a method of obtaining troops to go to war.  Many young, innocent people died as a result of being forced into war.  Numerous hopes and dreams were also destroyed in these wars.  Were the lives, hopes, and dreams that were lost not enough to eliminate the possibility of another Draft?  You be the judge.
The world today is slightly different than it was in the past.  We have many, many military troops ready to go to war with just a simple snap of the fingers.  Even if we did not have all of these troops, I am sure the United States would have many volunteers if war broke out.  Also, the United States is so strong, as far as military power, that I do not think it would take much to win a war.
In my eyes, if a person does not want to go to war, then that person should not have to go to war.  Anyone who is forced into something is not going to do his best.  I, personally, think inmates should be sent to war if extra troops are needed.  Their lives do not matter as much as the lives of the many innocent draftees.  After the inmates, the bums and the unemployed people should go to war.  They are only taking up useful space and tax dollars.  I see no reason in taking a smart, ambitious person to war when we have useless bums and unemployed people lingering around.
Some people think that one should want to go and fight for your country at all costs, but I am young and I have a lot more to accomplish in life.  I am fourth in my class rankings, and I plan to go to Clemson and become a graphic designer.  I even plan on getting married in the near future.  I just cannot see leaving my family, friends, and my girlfriend.  In my opinion, the people that show signs of a prosperous life should be given the option of going to war or not.  Our intelligent youth will more than likely be the future of our country.  If our leaders of tomorrow are killed, what does the future hold for us?
