If I could travel anywhere through time, I would go back two years ago, to 1999. I would go back to an experience that I lost a lot of sleep over. It was the deer season of 1999, but I do not recall the month or day. I told Joel I would take him hunting with me because he had never killed a deer before. I thought that he should have the opportunity to shoot one. As soon as school ended, we went home and prepared to go. We finally arrived at the hunting club and started walking to my stand on the other side of the woods. We were almost out of the woods and to the field where my stand was located when I suddenly saw a large figure standing in the field. I thought it was just a deer decoy at first, but then I caught a glimpse of movement. I saw a massive set of horns emerge. It was then that I realized I was looking at a monster buck. I decided to let Joel shoot it since it would be his first kill. Unfortunately, the deer ran off before he could get a shot. We ran and shot at the deer, but it reached the woods before we could hit him. That day, we went home with an unforgettable story to tell. I felt sick to my stomach and lost a lot of sleep that night. To this day, I regret not shooting that big buck. It is not everyday that an opportunity like that presents itself. I would give almost anything to go back to that day and get a second chance. |
